It's been a good while since I've added to my classic commemorative collection, but I recently acquired this example of the type. This is one of the lower mintage ones, with 10,000 made.

At the time these were produced, coin dealers snapped most of the supply and jacked up the price to the end consumer (sounds familiar?). There was a scandal at the time over this, and even Congressional hearings. Collectors were forced to pay sometimes as much as $5.50 for one.

Feel free to show your example of the type if you have one.

I don't have that one, although the image of Neptune riding backwards on a whale that appears to be blowing water out of 2 nostrils has always amused me. The ship and the crescent moon on the reverse are very well done. Your coin has that sort of dusty look I like to see on old silver.

Impressively struck example (pun intended). Most Hudsons do not possess this level of detail.

A '66? Marvelous specimen. Mine's a '64 and pales in comparison to yours. Congrats on snagging an sublime and stunning example.....
