How'd I do for $16?

    All three loose Liberty Head Nickels are 1896.

    Well at least 20 cents. 1896 in that condition may have saved you - Cleaned Buff - others too worn.

    I'd say you did very well for $16; those tax tokens are a niche market, but they do hold some value.

    Did you see the tokens? You never mentioned them. Also, I can tell in hand all three LHNs are 1896. Also, there is an 1842-O dime and an 1883 No Cents nickel.

    You did alright. Brings back memories of a young me in the late 1990's picking up common dates barber dimes, v nickels, mercury dimes, buffalo nickels, walking liberties, etc., in F and VF condition for anywhere between $2 to $3 to as much as $5 or $6 a piece. I used to do that all the time. Had a folder full of those coins. Unfortunately I sold it all as a lot on EBay when silver went to $30. The silver coins made me a nice profit out of it all.
