Any info on adding a PCGS coin to a NGC registry set? I noticed some sets include PCGS coins. I have a PCGS coin I’d like to add to my NGC set my have no idea how to do it.
I think the PCGS coins included in the NGC Registry sets are grandfathered in. A few years ago NGC disallowed adding PCGS coins into their registry so I don't believe it is now possible.
I know that NGC stopped accepting foreign coins from PCGS, but I don't know about US coins. @ldhair ? @robec ? @Conder101 ? @Zohar444 ? Do any of you guys know? Chris
Well that’s a bummer! Seems kinda unfair especially if a complete NGC / PCGS set has a higher rating over a complete NGC set.
I'm pretty sure they have. NGC has allowed the PCGS slabs that were there before the banning to stay, but are not eligible for any Registry competition.
I don't think it is unfair at all. PCGS has not allowed NGC coins in their Registry Sets for as long as I can remember. Turnabout is fair play. Chris
OP, if you make a custom set which many folks do, you can add PCGS coins to that. I have a custom registry with a mx of pcgs and ngc. Custom sets are fun and you can add whatever you like in it. Only thing to remember is that custom sets give you 0 sets as your not competing with other collectors.
That's why they did it. It was kind of embarrassing to them to see sets there and handing out awards to people with almost all or all PCGS coins in the set. The grandfathering in thing is rather weird though, it still leaves the problem they were hoping to address. It seems like they should have kicked them all out or just kept the status quo
You can add NGC and even raw coins to PCGS's "My Inventory" app. They just aren't eligible for any registry.
That really seems like the best approach. Let you share whatever you want but keep the actual registries just one thing.
It’s not unfair to folks like me, who had a mix of PCGS/NGC coins in their competitive sets, before they changed the rules. They did the right thing and allowed collectors to keep existing PCGS coins in their sets, but stopped accepting new PCGS coins.
I think NGC figures that virtually all the PCGS coins will disappear from their registry eventually. Some will be crossed to NGC holders. Many that stay in PCGS holders will be sold or passed on to new folks who don't know about or care about the registry. Or the current owner removes it from their NGC registry inventory for any other reason. The NGC registry has a one-way valve for PCGS coins, and it faces out. Once a PCGS coin is deleted from a collector's inventory in the NGC registry, that's it; gone forever as long as it's in a PCGS holder. Cal
