Hi, I’m new to this forum. I have been reading your threads for about a year and collecting coins since I was a kid in the 50’s. Before I start at few threads, I would like to thank all of you for the valuable information that you have supplied to me and all others fortunate enough to have found this beneficial website. Now for my question. Now that you have researched, shopped, bought, received, examined, recorded, protected and stored your new coin(s), how often, if ever, do you look at the new coin(s) again? Personally, I like to occasionally take them out of storage and look at them again. I remember when I was a kid, the excitement I felt when I found an unusual or older coin. I still get that feeling when I find something in pocket change or when I buy a coin or set of coins. I even have this feeling now when I look at them again. What a great hobby! I look forward to being part of your educational & spirited conversations. Thanks for being my new friends, Jack :hail:
Welcome to the forums I have to say I sit in a darkened room fondling my preciousness quite regularly LOL Honestly I do like to look at them otherwise whats the point?
Welcome. I take a peek at them almost everyday. I just love opening my display boxes and lookin' at all that metal, haha. I only closely examine my new coins (esp. ancients I need to attribute), or maybe an old one if something warrants it.
Just today. I was reading the thread here about sealed proof sets, so I went to my safe to see if I had any. I picked up quite a few 50's sets about 6 months ago, but just stuck them in the safe. Since I got them from a guy in my complex, I wasn't too worried. Well, one of them...a '55...was sealed, so I opened it up. Gorgeous coins in that little envelope, I must say. Then, I went through the rest just to marvel at some beautiful, 50+ year old proof coinage. Been a good day, so far!
heheh...i lurked this forum myself for about a year and a half before i started posting here regularly. welcome jack! i don't have any coins, but i have lots and lots of paper. i still do the same researching, shopping, buying, receiving, examining, recording, and protecting, so i thought i'd reply. i'd look at a few pieces almost every day except for when i'm swamped, and then it's maybe every other day. i've been physically separated from my collection for going on a year and a three months now, but i have pictures scanned online so i can browse through them whenever i feel withdrawals.
I probably average out to looking at some of them once or twice a week... sometimes more, sometimes less.
i look at them once a week or so - keep them fresh in my mind, what i'd like to add and what not. in the end they are just coins, i do prefer to look at my wife -steve
Way to often. I have to move my pillow to get to them so every time I do laundry I see them. :smile Actually seldoml. Way, way to many to bother attempting to look at them all. I do an inventory every 2 years and at it now. It takes me about a month to finish. Way, way to many. Not long ago I gave away several thousand coins just to drop the amount down to a reasonable amount and still, way, way to many. There are as of today 96 Whitman Albums alone. Then there are proof sets, uncirc sets, rolls and on and on and on. The problems with collecting coins for well over 60 yesrs.
Welcome! I like to bring a coin into work maybe three times a week. It can be old or new and any denomination or token. I place it on my desk in front of my keyboard and look at it from time to time. Love looking at a nice coin and wondering where its been if it hasn't come directly from the mint. Good Luck and enjoy your collection! Darryl
I get a few sets out to look at about every day. Im currently collecting 18 different series of U.S. coins including two complete sets. I just grab a few albums and sit for a while and wonder why they dont fill up faster than what they do. lol
I have a bad habit of leaving the cheaper stuff sitting out in the computer room. Stuff that I don't have a lot invested in basically. Now as for the good stuff maybe every two weeks or so if I'm digging in the safe for something and that's pretty much whatever I happen upon. Love my coins though and have spent a few hours looking at them on occasion. Then I realize that I went looking for something. A wonderful distraction I must say.
I love to peruse through my coins...it's just holding history in your hands. On average I'd say every 3 days I'll get my collection out of my safe and go through it.
I have a 3-ring binder that i keep all my coins and currency in on binder pages. Makes it easy to view my common-date coins. I take it out about once every 2 weeks or so to add something i found in circ or bought and browse through it. I also have some better quality coins in PCGS holders and air-tites that i look at maybe once a month or so. On my work desk, i have, in airtites on an small easel, a '41 and '42 Washington quarter in MS If i find a wheat cent or pre-60 nickel in circulation, i usually examine it for a day or two before i put it in a 2x2 and add it to the collection.
Hi Jack and welcome. I 'm fairly new to this forum as well but I read it often before I started posting. I wish I looked at my collection before I went to the monthly coin show this past Sunday. If I had, I wouldn't have bought the 2007 silver Britannia for the 2nd time I look at my coins on average, probably 1-2 times a month but I probably don't have as many as most on this forum. *~*Joey*~*
