Hi there , I am new to this hobby and I find it interesting . How much time do u spent ina day on ebay etc bidding coins ? Just curious coz I am hooked to ebaying !!
It varies, but too much time in any case. Most coin shops have little in the way of exonumia for even a beginning collector, so ebay offers a great variety not typically found elsewhere. When I have the time available I can easily spend several hours a day looking at offerings on ebay.
Zero. With a coin show 3 times a Month within 15 miles, coin stores all over the area, flea markets now booming and most have coin dealers, no need to be cheated on ebay.
In addition to the coin shows I forgot to mention we have gun shows, knife shows, camera shows, car shows, computer shows, dog shows, cat shows and just to many other things to do. We have numerous museums, 2 zoos, the Shed Aquarium, Planatarium, fishing in the Lakes, Many amusement parks and soon the Taste of Chicago coming up. Just to much to do rather than ebay.
I usually give a thorough browse once a week or so. Used to spend more time, but it seems to have dried up for me.
Seriously what other option do you have to collect coins ? I am not from US hence I have limited options to buy US coins
I look often, but buy seldom. I spent 3 years looking for an 1897 O barber dime in F or better and finally bought a VF with a cut on the reverse. I was on ebay once a week for the three years looking for it, but bid one time.
I look for about 20 min everyday.....I only look at coins ending within 24 hours and then snipe the coins I want!!
I used to use ebay a lot more than I do know - I have dealers I would to make a buck off me rather than someone ebay. I still spent time there almost daily when not traveling - it is just so much harder to find decent coins now a days. I need a few upgrades and I do search there. I get all my silver eagles there - but I also just keep bidding until I get them for the price I want(I lose a bunch before I finally win one).
I haven't looked to buy or sell in many months. It's mainly "research" and that's mainly at work. I work in a coin shop and often times things (especially modern, slabbed stuff) comes in and we have no clue what it's really going for. Ebay can actually be quite helpful for that. Many dealers use it as a reference point.
I spent a whole lot of time and money on ebay. but, after being burned twice no more. I just use it as reference at this point nothing more. I also use it for entertainment now that I've learned quite a bit from these fine people here on coin talk! Mark Persianguy.......I think you need a therapist and switch the pharmaceuticals your taking my friend LOL!!!
Buy * All Buying * Watch (0) * Active (23) * Won (12) * Didn't Win (68) * Sell * All Selling * Scheduled (0) * Active (5) * Sold (33) * Unsold (7) I spend several hours a day. As you can see, I don't win many auctions. I've been trying to get a 13S,14S,15S and 24 D lincoln for weeks, but they all go way too high.
Ebay's ok I guess. I spend around 30 minutes a day browsing probably. The problems I see is that there are bad dealers, a lot of bad coins, terrible pictures of coins, a lot of fakes/altered coins, and a lot of stupid buyers who over pay. In reality, it's just not a premier spot to buy coins. Although I have.
