How much should I pay for this coin?

    Hi. Can someone tell me the grade and value of this coin, someone just offered to sell it to me for $10 and i was wondering what the value is and if its worth it. Thanks. IMG_0287.JPG IMG_0288.JPG

    Well there aren't many made of this particular coin so it's a good pickup

    and by not many i mean just a couple million but that's just me.

    It contains .3167 ounces of silver so I think $10 is a fair price.

    Melt value is $5.74 at the moment, but there's no reason to expect only melt value for that coin. At $10, you'd be doing fine. A dealer probably wouldn't offer you that much for it, but a dealer also probably wouldn't sell it to you for that little.

    In my opinion (since you asked), you should not buy the coin. Instead of spending small sums on low grade coins, you should learn more so that you can make better choices.

    How did you decide to enter the hobby of numismatics? What is your attraction to old coins? For me, it is the history of the time and place. The coins are representative artifacts of their cultural context.

    Trading coins is usually worse than just buying. (Someone will tell you another story about the time... but it is about the one time that trading paid off -- for them.) The reason why is based on the facts of life. You pay retail and sell wholesale.
