Definitely depends on the coin, or at least series. There's no way we could give an accurate figure. What coins are you looking to buy?

For common date Morgan and Peace dollars in circulated condition, I would say around $15 dollars a coin. The cents if just common circulated dates can be very inexpensive.

Lincoln pennies from 1909 to the 1930's in Good condition can run as low as 5 cents and up to $20 or so for better dates. In Fine conditon that range would run from about 20 cents to about $30.

Do some web searching and you can find a price guide, or buy the Red Book. It will help get you started.

Heck, for $5.76, including shipping, I just bought a roll of "Unsearched 1930's Wheat Pennies" from eBay - there was an 1880 Indian Head in the middle, as well as about 14 holes filled in my Whitman album from 1930-1939.

Ben that is a bit like going out and asking how much a used car would cost LOL without giving a model or year. You can pick up cents and roosie dimes at a reasonable price (Heck even I can picke them up over here in the UK quite cheap) What I would say is that you need to sit down and decide what it is you would like to collect and then go for it. If you have a local coin shop then another avenue of collecting is world coins, from what I see here on CoinTalk most American dealers sell there world stuff off very cheaply and there is a host of wonderful stuff waiting beyond the borders of the US. Main thing is have fun :hail:

    I like your question :D
Now reading down along, I see you are interested in silver dollars and pennies...
Like raider34 said, morgans and peace dollars can go around $15, those being common dates that is...
As for pennies, wheats especially, you can get them for fair prices...
Buying an unsearched roll, as a new collector, helped me out when I started! It filled so many holes in my whitman folder...
In fine, most early wheats can range a $5-$20, with those not being key dates...
