Here's a common question....just wondering how much you think this is worth and what you think the grade is. It's an 1896 O Morgan Dollar. Thanks! (Note: The red on the picture is not on the coin)
Here is a link This should help you grade Morgan Dollars. I can't tell from the pics. Does the slab have a grade on it?
Was that eBay auction #2224878466? If so, then $102.50 sounds like a fair price. That is, of course, if the grade is correct and it hasn't been cleaned. The seller doesn't stand behind what he sells and doesn't accept returns.
If this coin is in an accepted certification holder. One of the top 3 companies. It has a current greysheet bid of $140. in AU. for the 1896-O Morgan.
Yah, it was that ebay auction. How'd you know? I bought it and will probably resell it. Won't make much but hopefully will make a small profit.
Honestly, I don't know. Took a gamble but I'll update ya once I get it. And you bet I'll be advertising it on this site
rolltide - Hate to say it but I don't have a good feeling about this. At no time did the seller in that auction name the grading company. What's more - he purposely posted the pics so that you could not see the name on the slab. And to be quite honest - I have never seen a slab like that. I can't even find an example of that kind of slab even in a book written about different kinds of slabs. Let us know when the coin arrives - I wish ya luck.
Update: I received the coin today...It was graded by "Segs". I don't think that's the most reputable company. It doesn't look AU-55 but I will put it on ebay and hopefully make a small profit. Cheers! http://www.segscoins.com/
Now you know why the seller did not specify who the certification company was. Good luck with your coin.
I'll show the certification so they'll see who it was graded by and they can judge if the company is reputable themselves. I'm not one to judge a coin because I'm no expert. I'll be as business-like as I can while being honest. I'll advertise it in the auction forum as soon as I put it up if you want to see it.
I can tell you from personal experience that honesty will always benefit you more than being business like. It is better for you to lose a little money on a single coin while gaining a customer. Respect is slowly earned, and dishonesty is never forgotten. Good luck.
It says "Segs" on the case, but I didn't state it. If it doesn't sell, I'll put it back on and rephrase it.
Just one question? What happened to this thought?
