Not a contest, I just love to play with words. How many different words can you offer that are synonymous with coins? Or with the word coins? Interested in the results. I'll be watching, Noodle
English only? English only? Heck. About ANY word....with the right inflection...can infer money. Rather like....ere.....you know....words not used here.:hatch:
:rolling: were do i start two bob .give us a score . have you got a flim till morning . flim begin slang for 5 pounds.:hammer:
moola; scratch fishscales (five cent silvers); cartwheels (two pence) Loonies (Canadian one dollar coins) Twoonies (Canadian two dollar coins)
Kind of an interesting topic. So far we've had: Cash, change, Two bits, buck, sawbuck, moola, scratch, bread, green, lettuse. Sort of cheating saying sawbuck since it is a dirivitive of buck. And if we say that is OK, then we should add 4bits. So how come no one wants to say that famous word that starts aguments here all the time. PENNY. So lets add: Fin, dough, disme, C-Note, bullion coin, Eagles, Mill, piece as in Twenty Cent Piece, half Union = $50. So now we can start a Coin Talk slag dictionary. Not sure if dough is spelt correctly.
On the other same post there was token but not sure if that is really a coin or currency. Same with Medals. Are those considered anything in the monitary system?
Are you looking for words that mean coins, money in general, or specific coin or paper money denominations? There are quite a few terms for specific denominations or for money in general, but I don't think there are many at all that mean "coins" in the general sense.
I have always liked the word "Bones" for describing money... but I think it equated in my mind to dollars and not coins.
