My grandson (9) and I are members of the Gorham Coin Club. Gorham is a small town (suburb) of Portland, Maine. The reason that it is called the Gorham coin club is because when it started 34 years ago, We met in Gorham. We meet now at a Veteran's home in Scarborough, Maine which is another small town just outside of Portland. We meet in there board room at no charge. At the end of the year, we give the home a monatary gift. We meet the first and third Sunday of every month at 7PM. We have an auction at every meeting, and a raffle. We also put on a show at the Holiday inn in Portland twice a year, the first Sun. in Dec. and the first Sun. in March. We usually have between 40-50 tables. Dealers come from MA, NH, RI, and even further away, and of course Maine.
I don't think there is one in this small town of 25,000. BUT, I've met the biggest ones by pure happenstance. And every saturday, it seems there's a small gathering at my coin shop me, my dealer, and another random collector from the area. So, I'm meeting them SLOWLY.
That's how we got our club started. A half dozen of collectors meeting up at the local coin shop on Saturday to shoot the breeze, buy, show and trade coins. It took some time to find a good meeting place to get started but we got it started and our club is going strong now.
As far as I know, there are no Collectors Clubs here in Central Massachusetts. Though I've met one other collector here, and a couple through Ebay transactions. I'd love to have one, or even try to start one on my own. I even had a name..."The Central New England Collectors Association", or CENECA. I wanted the club to welcome collectors of US, World, Ancients, Casino Chips, and Tokens. Oh, well...
