How many coins in total, all denominations, have been minted by the US?

More strange thoughts going through my head (again). Numbers . . . . . .

I started wondering how many coins has the United States minted since its inception? Has anyone ever done a tally on just how many coins there are (potentially) in circulation? Even a rough estimate would be good. It's got to be in the trillions, right?

I mean, just last year (2023) the US Mint struck slightly over 4.5 Billion Lincoln Cents.

That means the US Mint produced 143 Lincoln Cents every second of last year, with zero "down time." And that's only the cents. That is nearly 14 Lincoln Cents for every man, woman, and child currently living in the US.

How many nickel, dime, quarter, dollar, commemorative coins were produced last year as well? IN ONE YEAR . . . .

    Nickels

    Half Dollars

    Innovation Dollars

    What's the point?

Where I am going with this is simply: How many coins has the US minted for every man, woman, and child currently living on the planet? It has to be substantial. Has there ever been an official tally?

I even took off my socks and shoes but still never got there . . . . . .

There must be a mole in the US Mint that has this information . . . . .

Zoid, Zoid, Zoid….. My brother… Your mind is drifting to far away places……. No kidding, I’ll bet there is a coin geek somewhere out there that has done the arithmetic as much as we study these things.

The real question should be "who is still using cash to make purchases?" I haven't used cash to purchase anything in several years.

After considerable research and study my final answer is 'a bunch'.

Surely there must be some AI algorithm someone could poll to find out. I would do it but I've been banned from using AI. Even AI has standards . . . .

If we went back to copper cents, we would only need to mint in the millions because they would actually last...

Well, yeah, but they'd still be getting dropped/lost/tossed/accumulated in jars, so they'd "need" to keep striking them. As much as we "need" a one-cent coin at all, given the dollar's current value.

Instead of "cents", I like to think of them as "sixteenths of a half-cent".

The mint is slow on release this year. Last year was slow also, I think they have a surplus of exchange rate just waiting at the banks.
You may not know how this effects the rates at which we exchange, it is not good, the Communists, Marxists have been dying for this day to control your cash flow.

By the way Zoid just coins by year, include all the special series and Commems would be an easier task.

To add to your answer...is the coinage minted every year part of the national debt or does the.gov just slip them into circulation and not count coins just bills?

I haven't looked in years but I'd guess we passed the one trillion mark several years back.

    "If I had a nickel for every US coin ever minted . . . . . . "

    I would probably have half a dozen of these . . . . . .

Recently my doctor's office stated that they will no longer accept cash for deductibles. Is it legal to not accept the money of the realm?
