How many coins do you dump at one time? My average amount is probably north of $700, but sometimes I get a slightly larger haul to dump. This is a photo of my last receipt. It doesn't include like $200 in paper-rolled coins that I dropped at another bank on the way over! No problems from the teller, either.
just wondering, what types of coins are you hoping to find in all that common pocket change? don't you lose about 9 percent of the total amount with coinstar? that must add up to quite a lot of money after a while.
He's probably using a bank coin machine. Usually if you are a customer at that bank they will not charge you to use it. On the subject be careful how much coin you dump at one bank in a day because they will get tired of changing out bags and start wanting to charge you 5%. I speak from experience.
hehe my roll searching is usualy a box or 2 a month but usualy not the same coin each month. as for what can be found in common change, my best was probably case of half dollars that I got someones modern collection in. almost 2 rolls of coins that were never in circulation (02-10) and some real nice examples all the way back to mid 70s in other rolls very few dates missing. I have also seen guys hit the jackpot with as many as 30 40%s with a few 90%s from a single case (I think 3 40s and 3 90%s were my best in silver) but the list goes on and on with what you can find. It is the searching through tons of coins you have to enjoy. Sort of a buried treasure thing. I don't think I have had a single case that I searched and didn't get at least 1 coin worth keeping. Besides you never know when you might hit the jackpot cause some moron turned a roll from someones old collection
About $45 in cents. The bag in the machine only holds $50, and if I have to wait for them to change it, it takes forever.
i do halves try to do 4 boxes a week i reroll them and turn in $340 per bank so it takes 6 banks to return 2000 in halves a lot of work not many coin machines here only in this small credit union
There's a coin machine in the lobby of our local branch that is free to use. However, you have to enter in your savings account number before the machine will fire up. Your account is credited and you go to a teller if you want the cash. For my first coin roll hunting attempt, I picked up 2 boxes of Halves from a different bank. Nothing but clad in the first box (and it was also short a handful of halves), so, I made 3 trips to that coin machine to dump off the $500 in halves. Don't plan on continuing this and going to keep the 2nd box of unsearched halves as a souvenir to when the powers that be replace all our CLAD coins with stainless steel coins (Gresham's Law). My main coin of interest is the nickel and I'll try to continue to accumulate these until they go away. I pulled a handful of nickel rolls from my stash and actually found a 1945-S silver nickel. I'll take that as a consolation...
I keep my Kennedy dumps under $200.00 and go to as many branches as required to dump all the Kennedy's I have. Seems like the machine bag only holds about $200 in Kennedy's.
I do small searching, around $30 a week, getting a few rolls of selected denominations and switching what I get each week.
I haven't dumped my halves yet. I'm an impulsive spender so saving can be difficult. The CRH gives me something to buy without losing money and get a little silver while saving. I figure I'll buy a gold coin when I get enough (don't have any yet). Almost there.
I normally get a box of dimes and take out each roll on my hand and slide them back into the bank wraps when I've looked through. Then, when i've done all 50, i put them back in the box with a red dot to make sure i dont search the same ones again and exchange it directly for a new box. This way, the same box can just be given out again by the bank (and i know that as a fact, i once forgot to mark a box and searched the whole thing twice).
