Hi all... I am working on a coin show exhibit and was wondering... how many 1988 "P" or 1988 "D" rdv-006 1 cent do you think exist? how many 1992 "P" cams or 1992 "D" cams 1 cent do you think exist? how many 1998,1999, and 2000 wams 1 cent do you think exist? how many dimes with the reverse of 1968? how many type b quarters..all years? what about type c quarters? how many 1958 or 1959 type 2 halves? how many 1959 DDR die 1..or type 2 over type 1 halves and finally.. how many fort worth 295 back plate $1 mules? I don't have access to PCGS or NGC pops right now.... Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
Well, in theory, since each die pairing can produce a million or more coins, I'd have to guess a million on each cent listed, 165,000 on the dimes, 170,000 on the quarters and as much as 180,000 on the half's. I know that it sounds "unreasonable" given current populations and current trends but the proof reverse differences are so minor I just do not see where some press operator would spot a difference and pull the dies. So, this means that the dies were more than likely used for a full run. This is not to say that attrition has not captured some of these coins though so perhaps an adjustment down to say 50% or perhaps 25% might be appropriate? Almost forgot, TPG Populations only have to do with how many have been "submitted" and successfully graded but has little to do with how many might exist. Whose to say that a full roll of 1999 WAM's isn't out there waiting to be found? Or perhaps pristine Type B quarters?
In addition to what 19Lyds has said I will also add why do you think cherry picker type guides and red/blue books always have an asterisk and make the disclaimer that the following are included in the numbers above? The only concrete numbers out there are the U.S. Mint's annual total mintage figures saying they physically made so many of this denomination, year and mint mark. Plus there are always new things being found every once in a while even if some of them are only slight variations of existing varieties although I feel it's getting a bit out of hand.
I am just looking for a guess..as I know all varieties are included in the over all production numbers...
and Yes I know TPG just list what was sent in and received a full grade.... not a detail grade... I am working on what has been found and recorded... and what may have been released into circulation... Thanks so far
