Specifically a 90% silver coin. Asking because I'm planning on buying one in FR02, it's an 1853-O seated half specifically. I've heard of a PCGS PO-01 CAC example bring high-end VF money at Heritage.
A long time even to go from fr02 down to p01. Put it this way, I've had an fr02 1882 o/s vam 3 morgan in my pocket for about 8 months now and I can barely tell the difference. I'd say I have another couple years at least. But it also depends on on what kind of grinders you use and how mobile you are etc
I don't know, but I'd make sure to keep car keys and other very sharp objects out of your pocket, since those can cause scratches, and you definitely don't want a PO-01 details grade.
I know it has been said to you before that this isn't a quick or simple process. Plus, if the reason for trying is only the hopes/possibility that you can.. 1) get it into a poor holder 2) pass CAC 3) sell for a profit it's a lot of risk for what is, when said and done, fairly little reward.
Hope you have 2-3 years time to wait and that is on the short side of time. If possible keep coin in your back pocket - gets more wear that way from all the sitting and walking, and wear heavy fiber jeans like Levis.
It's because I find the coin interesting. The reactions I get out of people when I show them the coin will likely be worth more than the actual coin in Poor-1.
He's still kicking yes ugly as sin......and just about committed every sin one can imagine but again he vertical.
Well, I would normally say to get this thread back on topic, but it turns out everyone has given out their answers. Thanks! (If you stumble upon this message feel free to read some of the jokes in my signature.)
Markus the man fell out of a coconut palm tree landing on his head........ like a timex takes a lickin and keeps on ticking
It was common for a guy to go to the bank and get a Unc silver dollar to carry as a pocket piece back in the 30's, 40's or 50's. It served 2 functions, as a Good Luck piece and you would never be broke. When WWII started, my uncle went to the bank and got a Unc. Morgan dollar to carry with him when he was drafted. He carried it with him all through the war and then carried it for many years after that. When I went in the military in '65, he gave the dollar to me to carry. and it's still probably a grade of FR02.
This is the practice which will kill lowballing within the next few years. People not only "create" lowballs, they discuss it in public. It's like being able to create toners which not even the TPG's can adjudicate as AT; that would instantly kill the toner premium. Just sayin'.
