So Ive been doing the ole half dollar bank thing and have had WAY more success with what they have on hand as opposed to ordering special. With that said, how long do most of you wait before going back to a bank after a succesful score? I realize its all hit or miss but I dont want to be to frequent and tick anyone off....thx yall!!!
You could check every day for MONTHS and never find anything -- and the one day that you skip would be the day the little old lady comes to cash in all those big old heavy tarnished half dollars and dollars from her father's trunk. When I was regularly hitting a bank that had given me good results, I did it once a week. It got to the point where they'd wave me off when I came in if there was nothing, and sometimes skip me ahead in the line if they had halves they wanted to get rid of. I don't think I missed too much with the weekly checks. Eventually, though, there was a long enough dry spell that both I and they got tired of it, and I haven't been back since.
And thats kinda what I want to avoid. Dont wanna become annoying or waste time/burn myself out, yet want to be effective. Didnt know if there was some " routine" or schedule that seemed to work better than just being random or overbearing. Fact is just luck of the draw i guess.....
You'll know when you approach the tellers. If they're crabby then you may want to think about waiting a little longer between your next visit. I always ask, but then again I don't visit the banks that often.
I check once every two weeks. The teller at my local bank saved a 1969 half for me recently, along with some consecutive 1988A fives. So, I think that, as long as you say to the bank tellers when you'll be back, they will hold onto the interesting stuff.
