I'm using mostly incandescent light. I shine it from different angles and sometimes bounce the light to get the effect I want. The other thing I use is clay. I can manipulate the angle of the coin to the light much like holding the coin and turning it to get the best use of light.
I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but a very important setting on my digital Olympus Fe camera is the brightness setting: I generally have mine set anywhere from -1.3 to -2
Just sunlight, and angling the coin till I get a good pic. I had a set-up of LED's, but it proved to be redundant.
