First thing I did to acquire these coins was I went to grocery stores, anywhere with a cash register. I found one at McDonald's, 4 at Safeway, two at a smoke shop and one more at Frys. As for the grocery stores, if you come in the morning or like afternoon is when they don't lock it up to go back to the bank. But all you gotta do is ask, I got most of the bites at the customer service desk where the cigarettes are. Probably took me about three months of not that often checking to get these and I just sold them for 20 bucks all together, no variety. I remember a few people saying that these were worth only a dollar. I'm trying to show these guys that's not true. I even said I was going to sell them for 2 bucks each, and he was like I'll give you 20 for finders fee ( i mean come on I skateboard to get these coins. So I kinda feel like I deserve it. But didnt want to shirk him on the value, he saw where the value was) I even told him that they aren't worth that much, but probably 2 bucks according to coin tracker at low grades. He said that he gives them to his children, tells them to keep them for long time, and they do so. :) people will pay what they want. Even knowing the value of the coins will eventually rise in time because of the fact that they are unique, and somewhat hard to find, And I know that because I have worked many many many cash registers. Only dollar coins I seen have anything unique with the dollar coins are the Suzan B Anthony dollar coins. Some of those in specific years and grades are worth 2 bucks for low grades, In no way am i trying to con the man. I guess doing the work for people pays off. (I wanted to keep them, but I am in a pinch and I know i can still find these coins later so they were the only ones that need to go.) sucks that I have to let them go but heck, that's why I collected them, if i was in a pinch i would be able to atleast sell it for 2 bucks as a finders fee for the people who like these coins. I would also pay 20 bucks to get these coins back haha. So here is how I made 6 dollars into 20 bucks. :) IMG_2421.JPG IMG_2419.JPG

If that is the case, then you've turned $6 into $12, not $20. Right? Do people offer you $2 each or do you ask $2 each?

Well, what I said when he asked me why I am selling them. I told him I needed the money. Asked me how I got them, told him in the blazing Arizona sun with a skateboard, going from block to block asking for unusual coins. He said I woulda sold them for 20$ bucks so here ya go.

What someone actually pays and what someone says they would have paid are two different things. Was the person who said they would have paid $20 a true coin collector, or was he someone who does his buying on HSN and/or Coin Vault?

Idk why does it matter? He just saw something he liked and said he would pay 20 bucks for it. I told him something's bout them. He stuck with his 20.. I kinda deserve it too after how I acquired them. Haha

Because most people are unsuspecting dupes.

So, based on the time involved in all your efforts, what was your hourly rate of pay?

So let me see if I have this correct.

You went around, got 6 Ikes, and then wanted to sell them for $2 each, but some guy paid you $20 for the lot? He felt they were worth more than your asking price, and paid you a fair price (in his mind) of $20. That's awesome! I have a bag of 100 Ikes I bought from my bank, plus 31 more that I paid less than face for. How did you find the buyer? Craigslist?

There is a possibilty you got duped here. The 1972 in the upper right corner, could be a variety 2. On the reverse ( im assuming you kept them in the same position in both pics) Im seeing a crater that looks like it, but without better pics I cant be sure. It would explain why he felt like he needed to pay more. But even at $20, if that one is a Variety 2, he still got a really good deal.

Maybe do a little research on ikes before selling them at $2 a pop. Or atleast sell them to me at that price lol.

Oh and the 1972 in the upper middle, was that an S mintmark? Cause then that was silver. And also worth more than $2.

I have paid 25-30 range on some of my better Ikes. So yes 2.00 is a good deal

I wish. I wouldn't give it up if it was silver.
No not Craigslist. I have sold two in the past on face book offerup. I always sell them for two dollars a piece. Last lady bought them off me for two bucks said she hasn't seen one since she was a kid and just wanted it. Are they worth that, maybe not. But people will pay what they want.
I look for variety in these coins and didn't find any incuse islands. See. These were the 4 Ike 1972 dollar reverses that I had IMG_2433.JPG IMG_2434.JPG IMG_2435.JPG IMG_2436.JPG
