I got this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...772053&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_1199 I got this yesterday, I was sick and needed to buy something, I can't really see the coins and there is no info on them, seven bucks is not too bad, and they could have some value, but maybe not. There are also some larger coins, which I can use to give to friends or my uncle for favors or something. If you can see any of the coins and recognize them, can you tell me their value? I paid only about 70 cents each, no I do not care even if they are worth pennies.
Have fun cataloging & using the coins They look like the type of coins that you could find in a dealer's 25-cent per coin box. Paying 70 cents each is no big deal & they should be fun to catalog & use as you like. There are some interesting (but common) coins in the mix. The coins with Queen Elizabeth on the obverse are from Great Britain or one of the colonies. Also the coin with King George VI is from Great Britain or one of the colonies. If these coins state the name of a colony then you know where the coin is from. If they don't state a colony name, then they are the coins of England. The older Great Britain coins are based upon base 12. There were 12 pennies to the shilling. They used base 12 because 12 is divisible by 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12. In comparison, the base 10 system is only divisible by 1, 2, 5, and 10. Newer coins from Great Britain are based upon base 10 and normally designate "new pence" on the coins. Reading from top left to bottom right, the coins you have are from the following countries: UK Great Britain UK Great Britain Unknown (looks like Ireland but it's not so I would need to look it up) UK Great Britain UK Great Britain Japan (10 Yen) UK Great Britain Iceland Mexico Unknown (fuzzy photo) Of course, you can read the date & denomination of each coin right on the coin itself. The exception might be the Japan coin where the date is in Japanese characters and is listed as the year of an emperor.
Ok, thanks for all the help guys, I really just needed some retail coin therapy while sick, I will find out all about them when they arrive and then probably like I said use them for favors, much better than giving people a dollar when you can give them a large foreign coin
