I believe the mint said Washington's portrait on the Parks quarters was a rendition of the original design. How do you like it?

As far as I know, the obverse on the new quarters is going to look exactly like the portrait on the state quarters. They just used some fancy wording, so people know it's not going to be back to its original design used from 1932 through 1998.

I have a Hot Springs and noticed the hair is more like the original; a lot less detailed like the 90's and state quarters.

I'd say the portrait is completely different than the Statehood quarters. I first noticed it last night when looking at the end coins on some rolls of Parks Quarters. I first thought, "Geeze, these rolls are all late die state, as the hair appeared to be lacking in detail". Then I remembered the mint's statement about using the original design from 1932. I can't swear that it's the 1932 design, but it's closer to the early quarters than the Statehood Quarters. I kinda like it.

No pics - I'll have to take some, unless someone has some they want to post.

Looking closer, I think I'll call the statehood quarter series the "spaghetti hair" variety. The new (old) hair design looks more natural.

Washington's cheeks are now rounded up like the original version instead of hollow cheeked. I imagine te relief is still reduced from the original version.

Quick shot of the difference. First image is a silver proof from this years ATB, the second is a satin unc.

I see that the type style is not as bold as before. It would be better if I could see the entire obverse.

  12. Thanks for those pics Ken. I know that many do not but I like the new obverse. It has a cool granite look to it that really looks sharp in silver. TC

Here's a pic of the new (old) portrait on an AtB business strike.

It's really not fair to use the Green18 photos as the standard. They look nothing like the circulation strike coin. The frosting hides all of the subtle details along the hairline and the pony tail.

To bad statequaterguys pick has all that glare/shadow but nice try.

LOL Yes, still working on coin photography skills. Anyone have great pics of both varieties they can post?

Quite agree. The proof the ATB was the only example I had. Perhaps I should have compared it to a proof State Quarter? The first image is the ATB quarter and the second is a 2006 silver proof state quarter.

Somewhere in between would look alot better. And to tell ya the truth, I think its time for a new obverse. Washingtonless...

I don't have the proof AtB's yet, are the devices really as "grainy" as this pic shows?
