I have been buying Silver Eagles BU starting with 1986-2003 so far to pass on to our grandaughter. I have to admit that I do also collect coins because I really love doing it! I have coins handed down to me from my parents, ones I have found on trips, wheat cents from change, etc. My question is how do you know that the coins you send are the coins that are returned to you?
The top services like PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG (who are the ones I would only submit to) grade thousands and thousands of coins. Their namesakes have been built on trust (as bqcoinsn stated), market acceptance, and goodwill. Just one case of "coin swapping" could hurt these services and cause them to lose a ton of money. There are many checks and balances that your coins go through from receiving, grading, to shipping. The possibility that an employee is "waiting" for a coin similiar to what you submit so he/she can swap it is very, very unlikely. Use the top services as I mentioned and you coins will be treated with due care. It may take awhile (economy service), but of all the coins I have ever submitted, I got every coin back. If you are concerned, take some close up digital macro shots (search the forum for taking coin picutres) so you can compare the coins you get back to the pictures you have on record.
Well sometimes you can make sure if you know that your coin has a mark in this one place or such like that---but the Grading Companies are cardful to send back the coins you sent....they have messed up but very few times. If they were messing up alot of coins their business would crash and they would be out of a job so you can see why they want to make sure you get your coins back. As BQcoins said.....it takes trust. As to how do you find the value----ended online auctions such as Ebay or Heritage..... Speedy
Actually the slab you get back has a weighted with lead photo of your coin. They keep the real one because that's how they really make their money. :smile :smile :smile As Midas and others pointed out the reputable companies deal with coins worth many thousands of dollars so not much interest in cheating someone out of a few pesos.
trust I think i'd trust the top tpgs before I would trust most meet lockers! But that another story.
Most of the time with Deer and meat you don't get the same meat back!!! that is why I do all of the meat cutting myself. Speedy
Hi Lee If I may add to this silver eagles in my opinion are not worth sending off for grading. This is because the grading fee is usually more then the coin is worth in this silver bullion coin. Speedy is right about the t.p.g. n.g.c. and p.c.g.s. have a reputation to keep as the best in the business . The grading fee rounds about $20.00 to $ 30.00 at least that is my opinion.
