I like to include history and information in my collection whenever someone views my collection. I include information like what is the purpose of a star note. I include a short biography on each of the signers of currency spread throught my collection, along with a bio of the presidents and others that are featured on the face of currency. Guess my only problem is no one ever looks at my collection. But I'm trying to leave a legacy and history to my children and grandchildren when I move on. Rather than just a notebook full of paper money, I want them to realize the history behind those beautiful notes. For example I have some good information included in my world banknotes like Germany, Hungary, and other countries that have experienced hyperinflation when those notes are viewed and how that happened and what people experienced in those times in trying to survive during those days. Curious as to how you all present your collections. If anyone is interested here is a great website for world banknotes and hyperinflation in the WWI/WWII era.http://www.milliondollarbabies.com/
Morganman.. That is a very nice setup you have, excellent work! I am still trying to figure out how I might attempt this one day... I am at a note count of ~420 and I do not think I could lay it all out so easily. Again, nice way to display your notes :thumb: RickieB
Really cool you took the time and research. I have thought about doing that with my coins and few notes but as you pointed out, no one to share it with. As for my currency, just stored with my coins. They're nothing special like many I see here. Just silver certificates & some hawaii notes.
that sounds really cool. I like the tact you are taking. Have you thought about putting all this on a web site? that could be educational and interesting for more people (although with your large collection, scanning all the notes would be time consuming) ... maybe just start with some of your prized notes. i have a small web site at the link below ... with information on the history of each note ... relative populations, interesting facts ... but my collection is quite small www.mindstar.com/currency
Brilliant idea! I really admire the extent and enthusiasm you put into your collection. I'm new-ish to currency and will certainly be taking ideas this this and other personal websites into consideration when I have enough pieces together to share. At this point I keep copious notes, scan everything, keep Excel records on what I have, sharing mostly happens here on CT when I have something to contribute to a thread and so much of my collection is being prepared for some sort of digital presentation I presume. The beauty of this is that the collection can go into the SDB and be secure while I can enjoy the collection through scans or web.
Because I live in the city I take digital pictures of coins and Scans most of my notes & vignettes and then put them right in the SDB for security reasons . You have a nice system to display your collection ,I would like to be able to display also .
I have about 500 Notes, 175 Certified the rest in raw, My collection Of course is 97.5% Mpc which is spread out through 14 different Series Iam close to finishing about half with in a couple of notes, Iam waiting On the $5 note which i just found to finish off my Series 641, Which i Will be displaying tomorrow or the next day! As far as displaying, What i would like to do is display each completed Series in a custom according style holder which i can hang in my Den, That would be so cool!!
MorganMan and phubanks- You've both done great jobs displaying your notes and providing wonderful information about them. That's fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
Very nice, and this is EXACTLY what I have wanted to do with mine.....but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for sharing and hopefully, I will get going on my information pages to go with my notes.
I display mine in large vertical wall displays from converted CD cabinets. They're about 4' tall by 14" wide and about 8" deep. I put in all glass adjustable shelves and wired in mini spots. Each shelf display and/or combination there of, are themed such as: Civil War, Morgans, ASE, Denomination, Tokens, ect... All are in Airtites or slabbed, many of which are on small easels of various sizes. My currency is presented on the sides and rear of the cabinets with the coins on the glass shelves. I use some narrative, which I print off the internet, and some postage if it pertains to the theme. Currently I am featuring Territories and Possessions of the US, now and in the past. I will completely empty the cases about once a year and re-do the displays with fresh material. I always have a project going on that way. It keeps my interest peaked and my time occupied. Boy, isn't retirement just fun!
Thanks all for the input, there are some really good ideas. Now I'm going to rethink my way of displaying my collection. I'll try and implement several of the ideas given here. Thanks again for the great input. Rodger
RickieB and mpcusa, how do you organize your collection? That's a lot of notes to keep track of. I mean, even if you have a safe or safety deposit box or whatever, there must be some method to your madness. Is it just in stacks, in boxes, in rows in a box divided by notecards, etc.? Care to share a pic or two of the collection and how it's organized?
Hi tcore As far as my raw notes go i actually have them in a custom built Shoe box (Its a very expensive shoe box) every thing is in a Mylar-D holder with Index cards between each Series 461-701 Its a nice set up which provides not only safety but a very User friendly envirement Like i said with my Certified notes iam in the process of designing A hang on the wall sectional, Kinda like what you would find in Someone,s closet with a shoe hanger if you can visualize that When iam finished with it i will take some pics
LOL...just posted for a laugh. heard that this guy sells these for & $160 ,that's real inflation Many years ago they sold for $40 & that was outragesouly expensive even back then ! I agree "Throwing your money down the toilet.
