How do you display your bust halves?

Hey guys. I just recently went through my fathers collection and stumbled across some bust halves. Most all of them had a green film/substance from the 2x2 flips they've been stored in.

I've conserved all of them as properly as I could. Acetone and distilled water baths with light swabbings around the rims.

Now I have to find a solution to giving them back to him. I wanted a Dansco but didn't see anything.

Any ideas or suggestions?

2.5 x 2.5 Non-PVC flips with an insert with coin info. Then in a non-PVC 3 ring binder page for 2.5 x 2.5's

 

If any of them are high grade (EF or higher), or rare varieties, consider sending them to get graded.

 

Most are about whats pictured above, havent checked for varieties but they are common dates.

They were also stored similar to how its pictured above, except i think they were PVC flips and left a green residue all over the coins

 

Put them in plastic that way no one will ever be able to touch them ever again !!

 

I purchased some airtites, but wanted to make sure there wasn't an album I was over looking or a capital holder or something. I guess most people would collect these in slabs nowadays.

I don't know if they are worth sending off to NGC. They are all around $200-$300 and a few are obvious 'details' slabs.

 

Honestly, as much as I don't particularly like this company, I think one of those $10 submission deals from ANACS would be best for these.

Get a cheap storage container and an opinion on surface issues as well as potential grades.

If anything good pans out, double check the assessment and then maybe send off to NGC or PCGS down the road.

 

From what you say about the value of the individual coins I wouldn't expect NGC/PCGS certification to matter enough to cover the cost of submission. (Admittedly, I am decidedly anti-slab.)

I use AirTite capsules along with the corresponding album (Model H for early halves). Others like the Dansco albums (#6151). Either option allows for increased safety from accidental damage to the coins as well as allowing one to easily view the entire collection.

 

Just got these yesterday. They're the slightly cheaper Whitman version (they ripped off Dansco's design right down to the font). Message me if interested. They are practically brand new.

 

Wait, im confused. You are holding up Danscos or Whitmans? Those look like Danscos, and I would be highly disappointed in Whitman for such a blatant rip-off if they didnt purchase Dansco beforehand.

Can you show a picture of how they look on the inside. My dad isnt really trying to put together a complete set, just a date set I believe.

 

Yeah they say Whitman. I don't know if they bought the Dansco rights or the company, but they are EXACTLY like the old Dansco. I will take new pics in a few...

 

Wonder if they bought Dansco, that might actually have been a good thing. Maybe we can actually get updated albums put out

Either way, both are huge companies and could probably maintain new albums much better than Dansco was doing.

Nope. A dealer mailed them to me. I never even knew there were such things. He just told me he was sending me the Dansco albums... and then this arrived.

You should start a thread asking if Littleton purchased Dansco, someone up here surely has to know whats going on. That album is too close to a Dansco not to have purchased the rights.

 

It is amazing, to be sure. The lettering, inside written information on the series and mintages etc, embossing, fonts, page material.... everything!
Feel free to start the thread about it and use the pics if you want. It does make me wonder how they can get away with it.
