No, it isn't for some email scheme, it's for a reputable European dealer. I've never done one before. What do I do? Will dollars to Euros be a problem?
I had no idea how bad PayPal was raking me over the coals with transfer rates until someone recommended Wise. Wise does what PayPal does for pennies to PayPal's dollar. I've used them for years and have saved a ton. I PM'd you the link. If you recommend a buddy you get £50
Thanks! My bank charges $15+. Paypal does wire transfers? How do I partake of that? Is their charge less than 15? I want to drag this transaction over the finish line, so I'd like to do it the simplest way the first time, even if I have to pay more. Wire's used to avoid the 3 or 4 pct. paypal/credit card charge, I'm guessing? It seems like one could paypal and add on 4%. I'll also check out wise.com.
There are not only differences in rates between the multitude of payment services but differences in risks and protections. I have found over the years that PayPal's protections for both the buyer and the seller are well worth the small % fee.
Transferwise doesn't work for certain foreign banks. I was unable to pay a Polish auction house with it, even after multiple attempts.
Wise.com is a far wiser decision than using PayPal or a bank wire transfer. I wrote about it here: http://augustuscoins.com/TW.html Relative to PayPal about 7% is saved (1% instead of 8% fees) . Why give them so much money for a financial service others do for much less? By the way, Wise.com gets easier and easier to use, especially if you have paid a firm before.
If you do use PayPal, make sure that you select currency conversion options, and select paying in the currency of the transaction (euros, pounds, etc.) instead of US dollars. By using this option, your credit card company will do the conversion, at a fee well below that of PayPal's.
I occasionally buy coins on Italian eBay and of course they use Euros and I use my PayPal tied to my Discover Card to pay for the purchase and I don't see any additional charge for converting Dollars to Euros.
