i know I am not supposed to clean coins but... I found this while coin roll hunting and it appears to be in great condition. The only problem is there is black gunk all over it. How do I get it off without damaging the coin? Or should I leave it alone? image.jpg image.jpg

Soak in pure acetone and air dry. Repeat as needed. Do not rub with anything abrasive.

How long do I soak it? It is soft gunk, not corrosion

vinegar soak and pat dry is all I have tried, and only on my buffalo non dated nickel for carving. I would have NGC do it if you had a set going out to them.

No vinegar, pure acetone won't hurt the coin but may remove the gunk.

Nice find and I agree with pure acetone, no vinegar. Just be very careful with Acetone and use in a well ventilated area away from any flame or sparks.
