Im wondering, I am not the grading type, i leave that to the pros. I think in my opinion i dont thing it is Gem. I am also looking to pick this "Gem/Bu stone mountain" up in the next 39 minutes, so any advice on price chime in please.... let me know how i did on price, i just started thinking about collecting these halves! I also dont agree with the price she has listed in the picture but i have gotten some steals out of her store before.

    Thanks in advance

Just curious as to why you told him not to buy the Columbian?

so i ended up with both, sounds like i took it on the head with the columbian but i can deal with it. Spent a little and learned a little...

If i may ask, did you see something wrong with the columbian, or was it just overpriced for what it was? Either way they are here to stay now and i accept criticism well so be honest! thanks for the response.

Just thought I'd let you know, and I realize it's a bit late: If you're not into grading, then I'm guessing that a nice circulated example would do you just fine. Many of these Columbians did circulate, so you can pick up one of these in pretty nice shape for a bit above spot price.

i noticed that about the columbians, i see a lot of circulated lower amount ones on ebay, thought i was doing myself a favor by digging a little deeper, but as stated before, sometimes i have to pay a couple dollars to learn! thanks for the feedback!

When making statements, like the one quoted above, it would be more helpful for you state YOUR reason why the OP should not buy one or the other.

Well the Norfolk looks like a pretty nice coin. The picture says GEMBU, which I take as meaning MS-65. I can believe it, but just looking at pictures is not a very accurate way to grade anything.
As for the Texas half, the pictures are not easy to make out. I mean the pics are clear, but the lighting is tricky. The price is about as high as I'd bid on it already, but it may be a good coin to gamble on appreciating in the future with such a low mintage. But, I do not like to give buying advice on investments, as previously stated in other posts.

Thanks for the incite, I also have a bid in on a p,d,s set of the texas comm on heritage I believe ms65, ms66 so I guess ill stick with those. They hare so rich in detail that I just have to get the texas and norfolk, as I said before I do not want to dump more money than I have to!

I do own that ana grading standards book but If I ever apply the methods in that book to grade a coin, I would do so cautiously because I think it is a lot harder than that. I may be wrong in my assumption but I dont see a person like me "who has read it" being qualified to slap grades on coins accurately. I am sure it takes a lot of time for accurate gradimg!

You are correct in this statement. Most of the people working at the TPGs have decades of experience, and their results are still inconsistent at times. It is understandable though. I have my days at work too.
