How desperate can you get?

This seems to be a new trend...

I bought a love token on eBay, and the next day I send a money order out for it.

On the night I won the token, after I received the sellers address, he sends me another email saying "still awaiting payment".

The next morning, I get another email with, you guessed it "still awaiting payment".

That evening, "still awaiting payment" yet again.

So I sent the seller an email, reminding him/her that I sent a money order.

The other week, I won a coin. I get an email within an hour "I have not yet been paid".

The next morning, afternoon, and evening, I get 3 more emails, saying "I have not yet been paid."

I did pay for the coin the next day.

Over the course of my life, I've bough probably 300 coins on eBay, and this has never occurred.

Now if I didn't pay a seller in five days, THEN I could see the need for a seller to ask "I haven't yet been paid.

But I think it's rude to demand payment just hours after winning.

Has anyone else been annoyed by a seller for asking payment? Is this a new trend?

Did you ask them if you could pay by money order?

I guess if they agreed to it, then it would be ridiculous for them to expect it to show up within a day or two.

99% of my buyers pay within minutes of winning the auction, so it does raise a flag when the payment is not received immediately. However, if you emailed the seller, that’s a different story.

I think its getting to the age where sellers on ebay expect that everyone is using paypal now.

I always pay right away so they can't get on me about that, and then I can get on them for not shipping fast enough - which I've only had to do once.

I thought that money orders are no longer accepted methods of payment now on ebay?
    You must submit to paypal

Why don't you just use paypal like most other people?

You cannot state in your listings, or your about me page, that you accept money orders.

Important: Sellers can't require you to pay using payment methods that aren't allowed on eBay.

So if a seller asked me to pay using a money order, they can't do that.

This is from an eBay guide:

Although Sellers can no longer ask Buyers to pay with a Money Order or Cashier's Check - the Buyer CAN ask the Seller to pay with the 2 methods stated. According to eBay - the seller can then decide whether they will accept either of these 2 payment methods.

It's perfectly acceptable for a seller to accept a money order, as long as the buyer requests that option. Most sellers I have dealt with, have no issue taking a money order, as this saves them money in Paypal fees.

I can only assume that Detecto hit a BIN button in which case he should have emailed the seller immediately with his payment method. Not doing so is a little rude but then, the eBay email system isn't at the top of the speedy delivery list either and sometimes, emails do get delayed.

If a buyer wins an actual "auction" style listing, then payment is due within the sellers terms.

I did email right away. However in any future auctions, I plan on asking the seller if he/she will take a M/O, BEFORE I bid, to avoid the issue of a seller not wanting to take one. I didn't realize some sellers won't accept one.

    @Detecto,

Why don't you provide a link to the listing so we can see the seller's payment terms for ourselves?

So you think that 5 days an appropriate amount of time to wait before sending the buyer a payment reminder. My terms are that payment must be received within 3 days. After the 4th day, I open a non-paying bidder case in the E-Bay resolution center. My personal opinion is that all BIN listings should require immediate payment and that the listing should not be ended until payment is processed.

Why can't you just man up to your paypal problem and pay like most ebay buyers Tim...this money order thing won't work out all the time, every time.

I know I'd have problems accepting a money order. Sadly they are frequently used in scams and in other ways where the seller ends up not getting some or all of their money. No thank you.

I don't know, Tim... you tell me. Maybe the guy ran "across a buy it now, for something DIRT CHEAP, and bought it, in fear of someone else buying it" so he really needs the money. If its okay for you, why not for everyone else?

I'm new to eBay, but my experience is that it takes three days for a payment to transfer through PayPal if you don't have a debit card linked to your account. I discovered that with my first purchase, and then linked my card.

I have a buyer now that hasn't paid in 2 days, but I'm going to wait 4 or 5 before I message him, just in case he doesn't have his card linked to PayPal. He might have paid, and now we're just waiting on the bank - at least that's what I hope is going on.

I wouldn't accept a money order if anyone asked, because if you don't have the savvy to set up and maintain a bank account and paypal, I don't want to do business with you.

For a short period of time, they required sellers to at least accept PayPal. Now, as I understand their tangled web of rules, sellers must accept at least one online payment service, but it doesn't have to be PayPal.

I won't accept them because there's too many bogus money orders out there.

Every now and then, when I feel like messing with someone, I respond to a spam email that I know is a scam. Or I respond to a scam email that was sent in reference to a craigslist ad. After baiting them on for a little bit, I've received several bogus checks. A couple of them were quite obviously fakes and I doubt any bank teller would accept them, but most of them are very good: Printed on actual check stock with watermarks, microprint, Micr ink, etc. The last one I received had the logo, address and a phone number for the Bank of America. I looked it up online and it actually was a phone number for the Bank of America. I called it and told the person that I had a check written on an account from their bank and that I wanted to verify the funds before depositing the check. She confirmed the account number was valid and the account had sufficient funds. Which means the check likely would have cleared, but eventually the account holder would notice and the funds would be removed from my account.

What does all this have to do with FeeBay? Think about it: If your buyer pays with a fraudulent check that is drawn on a valid account that has sufficient funds, it could be weeks or even months before you ultimately lose the money. You might even have the authorities knocking on your door accusing you of fraud.
