Hi I'm new here and was just wondering how big your collections are? I was also wondering whats your favorite/most valuble piece(s). You can include pictures and information about your piece(s). Right now I have 500+ different kinds of coins. I found them and started collecting coins. My favorite piece(s) are my 13 american eagle coins.
How big is mine ?? I have about 250 peices post 1200..with quite a few 16th,17th and 19th centuary british !
Welcome aboard,I specialise in both the British Isles & the British Commonwealth. As to the number of coins I have,I don't know,as I prefer not to count them. Aidan.
Because it's too easy to put snippets of data together to result in a collection being stolen, I'm not sure you'll get a lot of responses here. Nothing personal, one just needs to be careful. I can tell you that my entire collection is in the hundreds of pieces, most of which are inexpensive world coins, but all together wouldn't reach the deductible on my homeowner's policy. When in the peak of my collecting, $10 was a lot of money, but then, that would have been $10 from 20+ years ago. At this time, Thalia Elizabeth and I tend to stick to the low end. She does have some nicer items from generous people from here and elsewhere .
I've got a lot of coins I guess, but I don't think I've really got that much value as far as total dollars... I've never counted it or tried to put a number on it.... Whatever it is, its priceless... With my collection so far, I'm kind of all over the place... I realize thats my problem and I'm trying to narrow it down and concentrate on 2 or 3 sets and build those then something else.... But thats hard as there are some many Awsome coins out there to be had and so little money... So far I've started the following sets American Eagles NGC MS-69 (also, got 2 ASE 20 Ann Set in original and 1 in NGC69) Morgans NGC MS63 or better (have a handful of assorted Raw ones to be graded) Roosevelt Dimes 1975-S To Date PCGS PF-69 Jefferson Nickel 1950-To Date PCGS PF-69 State Quarter Silver and Clad PGCS PF-69 Cents Lincoln 1909-toDate (From circulation) State Quarters (from Circulation) Jefferson Nickel 1950-ToDate (from circulation) Roosevelt Dimes 1975 todate (from circulation) Dead President Dollars (will build a set of Proofs, UNCircs and Circs) (don't know about graded) US Mint Sets (in original packaging w/COAs) US Proof Sets (in original packaging w/ COAs) and some of the Prestige, S.M.S, American Legacy Proof sets and other oddball proof packages... I love me some proof and mint sets... Modern US Commens Silver Half Dollars and Dollars (in original packaging w/ COAs) Then I have an assortment of other pre-64 Halfs, wholes, Dimes etc... Are all very well circulated, some nice, some not, that I've picked up along the way, just because I thought they were cool...
Gosh, one post asking where I am from and this one asking how many coins I have...another asking what is my most valuable coin? I have one coin more than some collectors and one coin less than others...
Don't know how many coins I have. I have about 10 or 12 American eagles, a few Morgans, nothing special. Right now I'm collecting Walkers. And I pick up world coins here and there as well. As for value, I tried to figure it up last year, and found out my collection isn't worth as much as I like to think it is. They are all worth alot to me though.
here's a summary of mine. 1,050+ of wheat cents. about 10 indian head cents, alot of copper cents, 25 v nickels, 30 buffalo nickels, 195 pre 1960 nickels, 7 or 8 silver dimes, 1 1900 dime, 10 silver washingtons, 8 or so silver halves, 1896O, 1924S silver dollar, star notes, older notes, fits in 2 medium size safes!:goofer:
Mine keeps getting smaller and smaller. I figure that if I'm looking at a printed list of my collection, and I don't have a solid mental image and intimate knowledge of each piece, then it's no longer a collection of treasured coins, but more of an accumulation. Not that there's anything wrong with an accumulation. I have accumulated coins, and at some point I realized that I had lots of coins that I couldn't even remember, and that had little or no individual meaning to me. I strictly redefined my collecting goals, and what I'm doing now is much more satisfying to me. I guess my new motto is "less is more," something like that. I still have some rolls of silver, stuff like that, that I suppose would push the total number of coins up, but I don't really count those as part of the collection, but more a speculative holding.
Midas, there's nothing to worry about until someone asks you for your social security number and mother's maiden name. Regarding the coins, if I had it to do all over again, I'd restrict myself to about 25 coins in total for non-bullion. Once I hit 25, something has to be sold whenever something is purchased.
I now collect 15 different series of U.S. coins, some proof sets, mint sets and a handful of world coins.
Well not to toot my horn...but when I go to the bank Safe Deposit Box area and bring home some gold to look at and study...my banker always ask's if I would like to have a security escort..now that is service from your bank!! :thumb: RickieB
