I don't know if I can mention the name or not, but I saw a contest for the best metal detecting finds on the message board for a third party grading service (we all know what I'm talking about, but I'm not sure if I can use the name). Users enter their finds and show a picture, and they get voted on by other members. I don't think there's any actual prize, but it's easy to enter and would be cool to win for bragging rights. I've never entered (mainly because I never got my e-mail to join that forum, which is when I discovered CT, and also because I haven't metal detected for a while, and haven't made a good find since my silver halves, quarters and dimes in my yard from 2002), but I could enter a roll-searching contest here. My finds would pale in comparison to a lot of others on here, but it would be fun to see everyone else's finds and vote on them myself. I don't have the time to run something like this, but it seems like somebody who uses the contest forum regularly would be able to do it with one hand tied behind their back. P.S., I think the roll-searching contest would be ok on any of the forums, since it doesn't have a cash/coin-related prize. Let me know what you guys think!
I had a new idea. Maybe instead of a yearly contest, it would be a monthly contest, with a yearly winner chosen from the 12 monthly winners. The contest would be split into 5 categories, and each person could enter up to 3 coins (or other things found in rolls) in whichever categories they wanted. The categories would be: Oldest Most valuable Coolest in general Most unusual Best error/variety I think it would be fun to enter. Might be too much trouble for someone to take on the task of organizing it all. P.S., Bigs, maybe your avatar is your roll find. That would be a winner!
