Hope I can post this here. Where do other sellers draw the line?

I cancelled this guys bids not only because of the 115 negs but also since I couldn't see what the issues were that contributed to the negs.

I can't leave the link to the auction. However, if you wish to add a link to this persons feedback, that would be fine. ND

Sorry, wasn't sure about that. heres his feedback:

    http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...r&item=3944806360&iid=3944806360&frompage=222

    Here's the response I got.

I'm speechless. I've done over 1800 selling transactions on eBay & over 94 out of every 100 of my customer's have been VERY HAPPY with what they've received. I didn't get my first negative feedback till over 250 tranactions. All I wanted to do was buy some of your coins, & now I find I've been blocked. Good heavens, I'll pay you instantly via Paypal. Why have you blocked me? My feedback is private because if I re-sell these coins individually on eBay a month from now, I don't want people to go back and see what I've paid, it's that simple. That's why my feedback is private. Will you please remove the block, so I may bid & add you to my favorite sellers list? I really like your shipping prices, and your coins. I'm Paypal verified over 400 times, and I repeat: I'll pay you instantly if I win. I've never been blocked from anyone's auction. Happy Holiday's,

Had to kill the link to the auction. I hope that you will link this person's feedback to the thread so that other Ebay members will have the opportunity to reply.

For myself, I would err to the side of caution. I believe that you have to make the decision for what is best for you. Don't take chances when these are your coins. Whether buying or selling, you are the only one that has to live with the decision.

I checked the items this fellow is selling and it is

"Old US Coins For Sale With Free Shipping / NR",

and the auction is described, thus:

"You're bidding on Old Collectible U.S. Coins ranging in date from 1862 -1958. All of the coins are UNSEARCHED & GUARANTEED to be anywhere from 46 -142 years old.

I'm offering 10 of these Beautiful, Collectible Coins in this auction."

All these auctions start at 99c. You don't really know what you're getting until the package arrives. There can be a large number of unhappy buyers with this type of transaction and negative feedback can accumulate. I would bet that you shouldn't have any trouble selling to this Ebayer. ~BUT~, to err on the side of caution is prudent. CDB

I don't blame you for not wanting to deal with that person, Dave.

That's the type of eBayer that you are wise to stay away from.

Sellers like that make it VERY hard for the rest of us to buy/sell. I mean, I know if I am honest and forthcoming in all of my dealings that I won't have any problems. But earning the trust of buyers is an uphill battle when there's people like this guy out there

Unfortunately, with the private feedback you can't even tell whether it's all from buyers, all from sellers, or mixed. Plausible as his excuse for the privacy may be, I personally wouldn't deal with him on a bet. But that's just me. :(

When I see private feedback, I often wonder what they're trying to hide. I don't think I would do business with an individual who has his feedback private.

Agreed with the others. With a 94.6% rating and private feedback, I'd be inclined not to deal with them, too. Though I suspect most of the negatives are from buyers, not from sellers, as it appears they run one of those "lottery" schemes where they try to convince people that they may get an '09-S VDB instead of a '58-D.

Have you ever wondered if you actually get anything decent from those so-called "unsearched by us" wheat penny lots? I am NOT convinced. But who knows.

Lottery tickets are a safer bet IMHO. :p

I bought about $40 worth of "unsearched pennies" I didn't expect to find a 1909-S VDB or anything....but I bought them mainly because it was fun to search through them. Plus I have more wheaties to add to my collection! :D

The guy may be honest, but he seems to run some auctions that leave the door wide open to dissatisfied customers. I know full well that sometimes a neg feedback can fund its way even into the most honest of seller’s FB record, but you have to work at it to get 6% negs on 1000s of transactions.

As a seller, you might not have to worry about getting ripped off by this guys, BUT…..with all those negative, he might no be too concerned about getting one more, so if he does not like your deal – right or wrong – he might whack you with a negative and he won’t care if you give him negative back.

Nowadays you can add return comments (rebuttals) to negatives, so if he had nothing to hide he could show all FB and list his rebuttals.

It is not perfect, but the eBay FB file is like your reputation - easy to ruin but hard to get back.

I'm with you, Nick. This particular seller has been discussed elsewhere. From what I understand, his lots are generally wheat cents but, what do you expect for 99 cents? Look at it this way: with sellers like this out there, we can keep a lot of repeat customers with our honesty policy :D

Lotteries are just taxes on people who are bad at math, this guys auctions seem like the same thing. lol
