I just finished building a website for a local coin dealer. This guys been around for over 10 years and has made his living off of heritage auctions, word of mouth and returning customers. I can see how he's survived as he's very honest and fair. He's taught me a lot already. I told him I'd make him a website and get him on google maps for more exposure. I don't mean to advertise, I swear, you can't buy anything off the site and there are no ads. I just need honest opinions. He loves it, then again of course he does. What should I show more of? What should I make more easily accessible? Anything to change? http://houseofcoins.net
First comment I have is that I would suggest that he NOT put orange price stickers on everything, especially the proof sets. When I buy them, I don't like ones that have been stickered. In fact, I will pass on them unless the price is a bit lower than normal. Site looks okay though...
Almost all of those stickers weren't put on by him. He bought a huge lot of coins from a northern dealer that moved down and retired. Basically the guys entire store. He even mentioned everything with a sticker is 10% off. Thanks man, appreciate it. Scratch that, I remember it not being on his graded coins so those might be his. I'll bring it up to him though as a suggestion.
Stickers don't bother me. The site looks nice in my opinion - more than my local shop has on its site. And if your post gets edited then I believe I can safely post a link to it - http://houseofcoins.net/. Never used the dealer so I can't comment on that.
If he is an ANA member or an affiliated PCGS or NGC dealer, I would get that listed some where. Also, if he is, does he offer to send coins in for grading through his store? He will get to meet more serious collectors that way.
Thanks guys! If you have any suggestions throw them at me. I'll definitely ask him about the grading. He has tons of graded coins, box loads, so he just might be. He recently sold a Flash Comic on heritage auctions for $27,000 to Nicolas Cage! It's pretty awesome being around such valuable coins and collectibles. Being able to touch some of the stuff and look at it in person is pretty rewarding. He actually gave me a free 1896 Morgan for setting it up
Maybe you should add "Contact Us" under "More Info" with telephone, e-mail & (possibly) fax. I realize the address can be found in one spot and the phone in another, but then you have to guess where to look for them. Chris
I have the phone/Address under Location but I suppose a Contact page wouldn't hurt. Thanks, I'll throw one up.
