Doesn't look like it's in Mint State,but how would I know.I never saw a Walker in Mint State.So.....I'd say AU-50? B12
I don't think I could go over AU58 on this one...the wear or week strike on the hand/leg/breast/leg of eagle.... Speedy
NGC would call it an MS- 65, PCGS would call it an MS- 63 because iof the weak strike on the obverse and portions of the reverse. Still a great looking coin and just a guess on my part
Well I can't decided if that is wear or a week strike....from the looks of the photo it looks like wear.....but I think the luster might be too good for that....here I go changing my mind Lets say MS63... Speedy
I'd go just the other way - I have no doubt at all that PCGS would grade that coin MS65. But as you say, that is just my opinion
That's not wear, it's a weak strike. The '42 Walker from all mints is known for a weak strike in this area.
To be honest I don't know for sure if it applies to all '42 coins or not. I do know that several of the denominations for this year have their own peculiar traits - probably due to the war and the changes it caused.
I would grade it MS65 and believe PCGS would too. I have no idea with NGC... it could be MS65, MS63 or AU58?
The grade NGC gave this coin is MS 66. I have the coin in-hand and agree with the grade. As others have pointed out, these coins are noted for their weak strikes. This shows on the obverses in lady Liberty's left hand and in the eagle's left wing and leg. I posed this to show that grading Walkers is tough, even from good photographs, and that weak strike is often mistaken for wear. This coin has absolutely no wear whatsoever and only a very few marks. Take care...Mike
