Here's my newest purchase, a key date matron head large cent. Please guess the grade that PCGS assigned to the coin, and assign your own grade if you so choose: As always, comments, both good and bad, are welcomed and appreciated...Mike
I would guess they graded it F-12 - there are even some similar online with F-8 grade - still a great addition to the collection!
Clarifying, F-15 is what I'd give it, but PGS probably gave it a VG-8/10 hoping for a resubmission, upgrade, and another grading fee...
Well - mine was easy. Lack of hair details and no cords showing. Now the reverse is better easily VG, but the hits took it to G-4 also. So that was how I came to my grade - and of course it is just my opinion.
G-4 was my first though, could be wrong though (good chance to, lol). A great coin none the less IMHO! :thumb: Phoenix
I'll just say VG and it's a nice looking coin. I have a hard time understanding PCGS at times. If I were looking at this coin raw, the hits on the reverse would have me guessing if it would get bagged. I feel this one deserved to be slabbed but it seems some coins with much less just can't make it. I'll probably never understand it.:desk:
I agree with Mark except for the comment about the reverse being VG with the marks bringing it down to Good. Yes the wreath is a little better, but the rims are very weak threatening to wear into the letters.
That's right. That's what I did. By ANA book standards, it's clearly a G-4 - right down the middle. So it will be all the more interesting to see the PCGS grade; that tells us something about their standards vs. ANA standards.
