I've never even looked at a 1/2 before, but if I had to guess, I would say ms 66-68, but honestly, I have no idea
My guess is MS60. Your pictures are so big and nice I think it makes the flaws more pronounced. I also can not tell if some of the shading is a little wear or the picture. Still a nice coin!
AU-58, only because I can't tell if there is some slight wear on the highest points or if it has just toned in those spots
I hate grading these things - they're worse than Washington quarters :headbang: If I had to guess I'd say this coin was in an album or coin tray for a good long time and that when it was placed there it was pretty much full red. But then the copper started to turn - and right there is where I get shot down every time :hammer: I'm gonna say you have to see this one in hand to grade it. The chocolate toning on the high points is too easy to mistake for wear. Example - you can still see the luster under the toning on the headband, hair etc. But on the bow - that's a tough call to make based on a pic. But I'm gonna throw caution to the wind and go with my gut - MS64 RB :hatch:
I'd say this looks in the MS60 RB range, but 1/2 cents are very unfamiliar to me.Looks like too many marks to go much higher.
NGC graded the coin MS 62 RB. IMHO, NGC nailed the grade on this one. Here are my thought on the coin...The coin has absolutely no wear, and is correctly graded MS rather than a very nice AU as is often seen in low mS grades in TPG slabs. The obverse has a large area of discolored brown caused by being handled -- remnants of a palm/finger print are fairly apparent in the pictures and more apparent on the coin in hand. The cartwheen is impared on the obverse by the discoloration, but remains virtually complete on the reverse. Ther are numerous ticks and taps (perhaps "keg marks" from a hoard) on both sides and they are what limit the grade to 62. All in all this is a very attractive coin, but in the end I returned the coin as I was hoping for better cartwheel luster on the obverse. Take care and thanks for your comments...Mike p.s. Spider, what did I do to make you angry? Believe me it was not on purpose.
