Homestead Quarter Double Dies, Why so many?

What happening with the Homestead Quarter dies? I have never seen so many different double dies in a modern coin. It seems to be only the Philly mint that is having a problem. Has anyone seen any Denver minted DDR's? The ones I have seen all seem like major's and are listed.

The DDR-004 looks similar to the Wisconsin extra leaf quarters. Doesn't really look like a DD, more like an intentional addition. With the separation you see in these there should be other areas of doubling.

The doubling of panes in the door window look more like traditional die doubling.

And on top of all the DDR's there's the "snow on the roof", "leaky bucket" and "broken pump handle" cuds.

Has there been any mint news releases on this or does anyone have a plausible theory as to what's going on. An "no" the aliens did not do this.

Maybe someone new to the die shop?

There are many years in die production where something just goes incredibly wrong for what ever reason and a literal ton of doubled dies get produced.

The Minnesota Extra Tree State Quarters had well over a hundred die variations.
The 2009 Lincoln Formative Years Cent had over a hundred die varieties.
The 1972 Lincoln Cent had quite a few die variants.
The Kennedy Half Dollar Series is loaded with Doubled Dies between 1964 and 1977
The Eisenhower Dollar has hundreds of different die varieties from 1971 through 1978.

Some of the doubled dies are significant while others are not and it appears that the Homestead Quarters is about to join the ranks of the "What the Heck Happened" years of modern coin production.

I agree with the lack of QC. My avatar picture is a RP dime that was struck through 2 pieces of wire.

I guess I need a new blank quarter album to put these in. LOL

I think the rarest of the P Homestead quarters will be the ones with no doubling.

Any pictures? I've only seen D mint Homesteads and no double dies...

The Wexler Die Variety site has pictures and descriptions of the reported DDR's.
