If you really want it for a permanent part of your collection, then whatever you're willing to pay is fine. :thumb:

But, if you expect to make a profit on an ounce of silver purchased for $49, you'll have a very long wait. If silver goes up 10% a year, it will only take 10 years or so to break even, after figuring the interest you could have earned by investing that original cost. :(

It's not for the investment in bullion silver...I've got lots of that.

The main reason I bought it is b/c I live in Lead, SD the same town where the silver came from. I wanted to own a piece of local history, but unfortunately it is in limited supply...I have in fact been searching for this sort of coin for four years now. In the world of E-bay and the internet that is a long time to look for a particular item!

It is very possible that silver rounds will become more collectible someday, sort of like hard times tokens and civil war tokens. This is a particularly nice one.

Here's a general question. Many silver rounds and bullion coins come sealed in plastic like the one pictured. Should the coin be removed because of the danger of pvc or should it be left inside because it is basically air-tight?

Since the Homestake Mine closed several years ago it's collectability is only going to grow. You might be able to make a profit in the right circles. Is it dated?

I'd remove it to be safe, the packaging doesn't add any value.

I could see it.... Look at the various one ouce Silver Bullion bars called ""Art Bars""...

I used to buy them till the prices went crazy...

There are litterally 1000s of different designs.. I like to collect one or two of each design and I used to pick them up on ebay for anywhere from 5-15.00, now the same bars are going for 35, 40.00, or if its something popular like Coca~Cola it can be in the hundreds...
