Ok, it's a prototype so it's flawed but it was fun to make. Take some sheet acrylic and some woodworking tools and make your own Capital-style holder. The screws are too far inboard but otherwise I think it's got potential if I tweak the design a bit.
Is the piece in the middle just a hair thicker than the coin i'm guessing? Does the coin have "rattling" potential? I've kicked around several "custom holder" ideas but none this chemically inert! I took a socket for my ratchet at used a grinder to get it just the right size to make holes in old (like 1940-1950) book covers to make some displays for washington quarters. (thought was to maybe utilize some unused chemicals in the newly cut cardboard for toning!....Maybe I was wrong about my thoughts.. After 15 months the coins show no sign of color changing....
The sheets are 1/8" thick which looks to me to be identical to Capital holders. Yes, they will rattle, as do Capital holders. A lot of your success depends on your ability to find the correct bit to cut the hole for the coin. A jig to locate the screw holes would be a big time-saver.
Bravo... I like this. I have been wanting a Capital style holder to display an arrows and rays half and quarter. They don’t make one. I do have a woodshop and I do believe you have motivated me to go make one now. Did you tint the center acrylic red or did you source it that way?
Very nice prototype. Something any DIYer can relate to. I've found that I have a much greater appreciation for something I create over the basic same item available for purchase. A drill jig for the screw locations will definitely improve the overall appearance.
