Not something I would normally watch but hsn came up in the directory (some coin show) as I was scanning and I stopped to watch. But one thing caught my eye...

So they are selling a ICG certified MS70 2007 ASE "First Day of Issue" ( I think they are even numbered #xx out of 1,490 or something like that). It's $79 plus $8 shipping, so we'll call it $88.

Now, I know rule #1... "Don't buy anything from these people. Ever."
    But... "Ever."

OK, I'll give you that, and I have huge problems with a MS-70 graded coin being more expensive than a MS-68/69 and anything even remotely similar to "First Day of Issue" or "First Strike" -etc. To be honest, I'll probably just put the coin on Ebay, or I might keep it, doesn't much matter to me.

What caught my eye is this: Includes certification valid for 4 free coin gradings from ICG

Of course they have different levels of grading, and the "certificates" might only be good for the $15 submissions, but if they'll look at ancients (I know they do, I just don't know what the certificate gets you exactly), I have three I'd like to send in. Even 4 @ $15/submission (if that's all the certificate gets you) is $60 in grading, leaving the coin $28 which isn't terrible, though it's over $10 more than I would normally pay for a slabbed ASE (which is why I'd still Ebay it most likely).

Anyone know anythign about the HSN ICG certificates? Anyone used them before? Anyone now understand why I might actually buy this item? I'll call them, but I have a feeling they won't know the specifics on the certificates, and I figured they've done this before and one of you might have gotten the certificates and know something about them.

All I know about this is What the guy on coin vault says about the guy on HSN and it is not good. I know what the guy on HSN says about the coin vault and it is not good. I think both are right.

I like to watch them becouse they are so funny and they cut each other without getting into names but you know who they are talking about. Beats reruns of the three stooges . Man those coins shows are every where.

really all i can Say do you want ICG certified coins.

I have looked at HSN on line site and love to read some of the post about how bad people are getting ripped off by them . Got to give em credit for letting people put them on. Think they sell the heck out of stuff

Oh I need to add that I saw the head guy of ICG was on the show explaining how they they do things and about they graded and how tuff it was to certify coins bla bla bla.
acted like a long lost buddy. Kind of strange i thought

I would send them the three ancients (if the certificates allow it) as they are one of the few that do ancients. If so, ICG charges $30 to grade those, so that would be $90 right there. (My math skills says to just buy the MS-70 ASE from HSN and then sell it for whatever I can get for it and keep the certificates).

I would send them to NCG but on the NGC site they say, "Coins we do not currently accept for grading include ancient coins and proof mint errors."

This is a bit odd as I have a couple of NGC slabbed ancients...

I saw the same show. You missed the the $10 First Issue Gold. They were selling for $219.00 and sales were hot. I find it strange how they managed to trademark "First Day Issue". The US Mint had a article out saying they don't even know which coins were struck first. They just box them up and who ever ships them logs out the first box he grabs. All I want is that nifty shadow box the coins come with, that alone makes them worth so much more. (Got to watch that sarcasim) I wonder if the the coin twins buy their own stuff. Probably not, they go to ebay or there local coin dealer and buy them at normal retail. You Guys down in NZ are lucky, we end up paying for these shows whether we want them or not thanks to our cable companies.

Nah,the informercials are played on nearly all 5 main channels first thing in the morning. They're advertising crap such as the Ab King Pro ab machine & the Magic Bullet blender, among other things.I wish these channels would put on some real T.V. instead of crap T.V..I won't watch them,so I am surfing the Internet, including watching some cool videos on YouTube.

Army do not think they are not saying first strikes, they are saying that somehow they cornered the market throught some arrangement and got all the coins that were released the very first day of issue. At least that is what i think they are saying. Sometimes is not easy to tell . That is why they are numbering the the things becouse supposedly they got all the coins that were released the first day.

If that is true not only does HSN have ICG in their corner, but the U.S. mint. It is hard for me to believe that they have a monopoloy on any particular issue that the mint released the first day.

to me HSN and ICG have a very close relationship to say the least. I do not look a lot but i do not see a lot of ICG coins on the web where i do my shopping

Please overlook my last statement about comparing them with the three stooges. The stooges deserve much better than that.

    Thanks!
I don't know how old they are (bought 'em that way), though there aren't tons for sale so maybe it's not something they do anymore. I emailed them to ask.

All I know is I saw the TM logo next to "First Day Strike" and of course they remarked how nobody else could say that about their coins. They are about as qualified to sell coins as they are to perform brain surgery. I cringe everytime I see those two grab a coin without any gloves on. Give me one of those coins with a thumbprint right in the middle.

    samjimmy,
A bit off topic but that is a REALLY NICE Alexander coin.It is almost impossible to find the Poseidonia issues for a decent price since they're so scarce. As I stated on another thread or two, almost 99.999999% of these carry the Zeus enthroned reverse and were minted long after Alex had kicked the bucket.Yours is from his lifetime and has the bull reverse. Can I have it?:goofer:
