Do you store your coins and/or bullion at home? If so, the following article may give you something to think about - even if you store your coins and bullion in a safe. Home invasions for rare coins on rise, collectors say
I have a heck of a lot more than that, but it doesn't help if they break in when you aren't there, or get the drop on you in the dead of the night. I have been thinking about it more, and am leaning towards bigger SDB's. As long as you also store some financial documents it should be deductible against investment proceeds.
Somebody could bust in over a tv. Should we not keep any electronics at home? The threat remains the same. If somebody breaks in while youre at home, you better have guns nearby that are ready to go. I dont care if you only have 2 cents in the house. Peoples lives are at risk regardless of what the house contains. If you tell them you dont have anything, it may be the truth. But that just might make them angrier and they decide to shoot you over it. You better have a plan. You better be ready to go. You cant just have a SDB and feel like youre somehow insulated from harm in this day and age.
are you at home 24/7/365? (don't answer, i don't need to know/don't want to know the previous or the following...) do you leave to go to work? take the kids to the doctor? take the lady for a special night out on the town? go on a vacation? you can own as many guns as you want, but if no one is there to pull the trigger, what good are they?
Like others said, having a gun is only helpfull if your home. People are actually targeted for being known as a gun owner. A thief would love to come into an empty house and make out with guns and precious metals in the same burgary. Two things that can be turned into cash quickly.
Yeah, true enough Swish. I guess we're all walkin' around with bulls eyes on our backs by just posting in the forums. Computer savy crooks can track us down with ease. We can put the valuables off site in a safe place but what good does that do if this vermin busts into your home and finds nothing for the taking? They slit our throats? Glad I got a big ol' dog. If it's anything crooks fear is a big ol' dog......
I'm certainly in favor of having a gun to protect yourself and others if your home. But you still have to be carefull. And try to keep quiet about having guns or coins in the house, because there are people out there who would like to steal both. Oh, and I think the Cardinals are going to be fine without Pujols.
Your best protection is yourself; don't announce to the world you own the best ak47 or a ton of bullion.
I agree. It won't make any difference if your valuables are at home or in Fort Knox...if you become involved in a home invasion, it becomes irrelevent. A lot of people are quick to show they're armed, but they aren't 24/7 and if it came right down to shooting someone it a bit harder than posting a picture of a mostly useless piece of iron. If everyone who claimed they were strapped and loaded and ready to defend actually pulled the trigger when the moment arose, there'd be thousands, if not hundreds of thousands more crime-related shootings every year. Your best defense is don't do anything stupid when your family's lives are at risk. Guy
