Just purchased this coin for $22 in an airtight, when I peeled the sticker off the back, I noticed something weird going on with the D. Is this what I think it is??? There is a secondary D sitting right on top of the original D in Dollar. Albeit slightly to the left.... I've never seen such a thing, what is it?????? Oh, and the bottom of the secondary d,is starting to peel up, on the bottom. As if I could take tweezers and jerk it off of there, not that I would...

Lamination peel, I think. A dropped letter is going to either be an incuse strike on the planchet (the dropped feature becomes a strikethrough), or it becomes embedded, struck into the planchet.

OK, I must be mistaken on terminology then, I'm thinking of the error, where grease builds up and hardens, then gets struck right next to the design feature where the grease build up occurs .... if that makes sense, seems @Amos 811 has this on his avatar...IF this is the same thing I have no idea
Edit:well that's cool, you can actually click on Amos link above, and see what I'm talking about

I just don't understand how lamination would cause 2 different Ds, one offset from the other.:sorry:

Yes you are descibing a dropped letter or element. That grease though gets struck into The coin and becomes flush with the field or device area it lands on.

Killer placement and size of the planchet flaw

I agree with the lamination peel and what someone thought by covering it up with a sticker to hide it to me turns out to be a very cool find!
That said $22 for this coin to me is far less then what it's worth as is with the lamination error. What's the date?
What I find even cooler is that who ever covered it up to hide a problem coin didn't have a problem coin. They had a cool error they allowed to slip through their fingers trying to be slick. :)

    It's a 1921 , and probably ms63...
Which is why I jumped on it.... Well, not the super mega uber rare error that I thought I had, but I guess ANY Morgan error is a hot ticket item:joyful:

About a year ago, I saw a GSA Morgan with a dropped star on the reverse. It was awesome looking! Seller was on eBay and wanted $5000.

It's not for sale anymore. So I'm guessing he either sold it on eBay or moved it at a show.

So according to the 2016 red book a lamination error on a silver dollar is valued at $50 , that said you more then double your money to begin with, not adding in the placement factor and ms condition . Score BTW have you picked up the 5 cases of corona yet? getting very thirsty here.......:spitoutdummy:
