    Hi,

I hope it is not presumptous (sp?) to start a thread the same day I register for the forums. I have been lurking for a while now, and just got around to registering.

I don't have many coin dealers near where I live (one, to be exact) so I buy alot of my coins on ebay. This is what got me to finally register here, I found the following and thought it was funny. I am considering starting a collection of holed coins, and searching for "holed" in the coins category turned this up:

Do you think it is serious? Any guesses as to how it got that way, lol Does anyone else here collect holed coins?

Looks like somebody run over it, alot. Some kid probably made a necklace out of dads collection or a gift cause he thought it looked cool, than lost it.

I still am. Actually, a HUGE thank you to the OP for pointing that auction out to me. I was afraid I might never find one of those that was holed.

SeatedLibLover - pm me, I have some holed duplicates.

Pete P. - sorry about the lack of contact, I will pm you.

Ha! That thing looks like it got hit by a train. I just bought a couple of holed coins recently, I dont know why other than the holes are tiny. Maybe because the coins are nice to look at and very old.

I strongly suspect this is one of those base metal counterfeits from China that has been abused. The surfaces, the lettering and the rims all look bad to me.

I guess I'd consider buying a holed coin if it was selling for a tremendous discount to a coin in average circulated condition, and if the coin was one I wouldn't otherwise expect to ever be able to own. But not this coin.
