Hey All! Does anyone collect/know about hobo nickels? I have one that I'm trying to see if I can track to a specific carver. It looks like it is done by hand but beyond that I can't tell. I have looked at the Hobo Nickel Society page and the list of carvers they have and see some similarities here and there but nothing that stands out. Anyone with experience with hobo nickels?
No idea how to tell who the carver of yours is. My son bought one at the Baltimore Whitman Show last year. It's pretty common but he likes it. I believe it was done by an older carver too.
You should post the reverse also. Most of what you see today are modern. Here's one I commissioned a guy to make for me.
