It's a pin that's made from tin. It reads "DUETSCHES JUGENDFEST". Both are Hitler Youth Fest Pins dated 1935. The first one is oval and the second one is oblong. Several sizes and shapes are available. A small amount of rust as its tin and 85 years old.

Gross. Things like that should be resigned to history. Only to be used as teaching tools to show future generations how not to be. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of that teaching has been forgotten or ignored lately.

It helps to explain how Hitler did what he did. We need to understand history in order not to repeat our mistakes.

I don't think these things should be forgotten and I have no problem with people who collect them. Admiring what they stood for...that's something else. But there is nothing wrong with learning about the history and appreciating the artifacts.

I probably worded my thoughts wrong. Yes, these things should not be forgotten. I have no problem with people collecting them...for historical purposes...learning from history is the only way we won't repeat it. I've seen too much history repeating itself lately. It makes me sad.

I agree with you...what is happening today is sad. It makes me wonder if we have gotten so PC that we refuse to really remember the horrors of the past.

What's going on right now is partly due to some that have apparently not learned from the past.

Be careful with posting personal feelings on this forum. You have freedom
of speech and print in your house, but this is the moderators forum and they
have control. Concerning these pins, keep it as numismatic as possible.
PM each other with other thoughts.

Rather a crude and poorly executed design on cheap materials. Really has no numismatic value what so ever. Only worth the historic context.

However it is worth whatever someone would pay.

Yes but I got it cheap. I don't collect these types of things. I bought a small box and it had a number of neat items inside.

@Razz I realize that they have no numismatic value, they were presented on
a numismatic forum. Hence my statement.

Yep, just keeping it "numismatic as possible". Actually, the General Discussion forum is specifically for non numismatic topics...

I accidentally hit the coin form as that's what I usually hit. I believed it was moved. Not the first mistake I've made and it won't be the last.

Better than the mistake I made today..... Watered the grass and then got out my ladder to clean a gutter. Ladder slipped in the wet grass and I now look like I been in a car wreck.. Can we trade mistakes please? LOL

Randy, Home Depot and Lowes have some of those plastic gutter sieve covers that keeps leaves out. I have several very large Eucalyptus trees in the back yard and they really help. Jim

I think these things should be viewed and put into context. How they represent a murderous regime and we're a part of a program to initiate young children into the vile idiology that helped lead to the most heinous acts in history. I so often see much of history as being very grey and seldom as simple and straight forward as it sometimes seems. However the Nazi party and the compliance and acceptance of that regime and it's ideology by a large section of the population that profited from their extermination of millions are a rare exception where there is a clear and undeniable bad guy.

Makes be think of this funny little piece from Mitchell and Webb (watch these guys they are sooooo funny.)

    Are we the bad guys?

    Randy,

Sorry to hear you took a dive, but glad you're still with us. Get well soon. If it was an extension ladder, consider getting a stabilizer (see pic). Mine has kept me from doing a face plant.
