Just an FYI for all who may be interested in some antique numismatic reading material: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In another thread on some of our personal Numismatic Libraries, a title was shown that piqued my interest, so I did an online search and discovered that Google has scanned the entire contents of this particular title and made it available on Google Books. This means it is also available as a PDF that you can download and read offline for those interested in keeping a personal digital copy. Just follow the link below to browse the title or search the title itself in Google Books: History of the United States Mint and American Coinage, Ancient and Modern by George G. Evans Book description: With a complete description of American coinage, from the earliest period to the present time. The process of melting, refining, assaying, and coining gold and silver fully described, with biographical sketches of Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, Robert Morris, Benjamin Rush, John Jay Knox, others. Glossary of mint terms, tables, prototypes, steel plate portraits, wood engravings. Published: Philadelphia, 1886 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Thanks to that great thread by RickieB and for connor1's shared contribution there as well as thanks to the merits of the Google Books project to bring this rare numismatic title to us all!
Krispy, Thank you very much for the informative link. I am searching for a written presentation on the history of the San Francisco Mint...
Glad you enjoyed it. Try the Google Books search feature for other titles if you have any you are specifically looking for or search by subject there too regarding the SF Mint. If you find anything numismatically interesting I'd love to see what you turn up. A while back PennyGuy posted this short historic film about the SF Mint that's up on YouTube, which might be of particular interest to you: Golden Gate City: San Francisco 1940 Here's the original thread
