Really? Because this is the 1984 that's the double ear. Just seems to me like those blisters would be extremely conveniently placed where the doubling happens on the 84 pennies. Hmm..
See all the texture in the fields the little raised bubbles those are also plating blisters, some are just larger than others. This is what the large ones look like. http://www.error-ref.com/?s=gas+bubbles
Oh, my wording was wrong I'm sorry... I just realized that it looks as if I was stating that this coin was a double ear. Was meaning to say it was the same year as the double ear. I'm sorry. Just realized what it looked like I was saying.
Since the 84 Philly doubled ear was found, A lot of folks have been looking for a Denver to go with it, and still one hasn't been found. Being that Denver produced 5,569,238,906 of them, there could be one or more out there. I would be skeptical, but I look anyways.
Yeah because lighting is everything I think that it names it look as if there's a double earlobe here but I'm sure it's just lighting.
@RachelRuth. When referring to coins, you want to say “doubled” ear and not a “double” ear. It would also be proper to ask whether anyone else sees “doubling” of the ear (or whatever other part of the coin you suspect may show doubling). Do you see the difference? I hope I explained it clearly. If not, @Pickin and Grinin or @paddyman98 will correct me, as I am new also and learning, like you.
To repeat what others have said, you have a plating blisters. This is a pic from PCGS Coinfacts. Compare your coin to this and you can easily see that you don't have the DDO. In the future, if you think you found something that is a well known error (like the 1984 DDO, 1983 DDR or 1995 DDO) do a quick web search for images and compare your coin to pics from legitimate dealers or sites like Coinfacts. EDIT: Not sure why the pic didn't attach, but you get the idea.
Oh, no no no.. I know you all are right lol. Not questioning your opinions at all. Was just trying to basically explain how goofy my eyes are right now from looking at so many cents. It's like between the lighting and the magnifying glass my eyes are playing tricks on me. Wasn't arguing anyone's opinion. This is what sucks about messaging like this is the lack of tone of voice because it has to be at least 50% of the conversation. Thanks again. Rachel
Welcome to CT, good to have you here, looking at a lot of coins will do that. What kind of references are you using? As a help for you if you say strike it rich, I would take that book with a grain of salt. Cherry pickers guide is good, but there are a few online references, that are amazing in comparison. How long have you been collecting?
I actually just really got into it my father has been my mentor. He's pretty old though and pretty blind (hell with what I see, I might be blind too!). He's also not up to par on all of the newer ones, by newer I mean like anything since 1982 probably. I've always just loved looking at his collection and always had a love for it just never had time for it. As far as what books... ? LoL none... I just research something if it looks different but I'm getting a pretty good idea about what years are decent to look out for. Here's a picture that made me cry... My father sold it like 10 yrs ago (after yelling at me for selling one when I didn't know what I had... ) I have soooo many coins with my dad's collection to go through it's just that most are foreign. Rachel
I use these daily. Here is my favorite two references for variety's. http://varietyvista.com/index.htm http://doubleddie.com/1801.html And the go to for errors. http://www.error-ref.com/
