The seller write that the coin is AU grade, What do you think? The link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Belgium-1863-5-...|240:1318|301:0|293:2|294:50#ebayphotohosting Thank you in advanced.
The coin is interesting... The coin looks like it has no luster, and has wear on both sides.. I don't know if this coin is an AU coin, but I don't know exactly how to grade these kind of coins, so I can't give you a definite answer If it were me, I'd say EF
If I'm reading this correctly, your stateing than an AU coin shows no luster ? Please explain more in detail as to what you mean. I've been a collector for 35yrs, I guess I'll learn something new.
Thats not nessesarly true about AU showing no lustre, because XF coins can have some broken lustre still.
IMO the coin (depicted in the photo) might be EF-40. Very best regards, collect89 P.S. My first guesstimate was a 37.5 = half way between a VF35 & EF40
I understand, I just wanted the person that posted the statement, to explain why he thinks that way. I hope he reads your post and will understand why he is wrong about his thinking.
