I just spent the last half hour going through the HA sale of ancients. What an amazing layout of gorgeous coins! Here's one of the highest priced ones:

Oh my Ikandigit. those coins are so good, it makes me want to throw out my collection....... NOT. Man those are great ancients.

 

Lol those are all big boy coins. All beautiful but all out of my price range.

 

I always wonder who is buying those 5 and 6 figure coins, collectors or dealers.

The big story at the show was lot 45, an Athenian Tetradramn. Sold for over $600K, then the buyer had to return it because it turned out to be fake. (Don't bother looking for it, HA has deleted the lot.) It had an NGC photocertificate, but the photocertificates I have seen were not covered by the NGC guarantee.

I read about that on the CU and forvm boards. Crazy....

 

Well at least they caught it before it went on the block. I hope interpol can get to the source and destroy them. I would not expect any help from americas FBI, except perhaps colusion with the counterfeiter.
