While perusing the current (Sunday) Heritage Auctions I ran across a 22 no D Lincoln--PCGS VF 25. The population guide shows PCGS 407/1617 and NGC 0/0. But, when I look at the previous prices it shows 2 in VF25 sold graded by NGC. How can you sell something that you say you never had? What am I missing? http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=210012&Lot_No=22022
Good question - don't have a clue. Maybe they could not get the total numbers from NGS for whatever reason. I have never really checked those on auctions.
NGC is trying to hide their population reports for the past couple years. I have not yet determined just how they are going about this, but about a year ago, they started charging for the "privilege" of knowing the population and they removed a bunch from Heritage (and I assume other sites), but not all of them. If I am not mistaken, some of the populations reappeared later.
That's what PCGS does that's one of the reason's I like NGC better. More collector friendly and not just dealer minded. But now NGC is pullig some of that...boo
I think that it is just an error. I still see lots of NGC pop information all over the Heritage auctions.
I'll confirm this. We have a lot more trouble parsing the NGC numbers than we have with the PCGS ones.
