I went to AZ. a few weeks ago, and among other coins my father gaves me this weird Kennedy half. Some find it cool, some creepy. Opinions???
omg..eww..weird..creepy is right. What the heck happened to it? Mighty kewl though..lol hmm...maybe somebody tried a 'hobo' type of thing to it. Erased the back and pushed out the face. Wonder if thats possible? probably some time of jewelery thing
Twiggs, Thanks for finding that. I just thought someone did it on their own, now I see it was specially released. Kewl,
Thanks for finding that Twiggs. Just so happens I have one of those in the holder pictured in your link. I have NO CLUE where it is but remember buying it at the local shop for a couple bucks. Figured I'd sell it on ebay and will if I ever find it!
Technically, it's not worth 50¢ anymore as the mint considers it mutilated and only worth melt value.
gatzdon..it's not mutilated, it was struck that way. Check the link I posted above I would love to get one of those
"This genuine Kennedy half dollar struck by the US min was re-struck by the American Historic Society for form the remarkable 3-D image. " From the looks of the pictures, I'm guessing it's no longer machine countable and as far as the mint is concerned, that makes it's mutilated. I'm not saying it's not worth more to a collector, I'm just saying that it no longer has that 50¢ value to fall back on.
I would say as a curiosity it is worth more than its original face value. People will find it interesting, thus some people will want to buy one.
i am now going to have nightmares. it looks like a head that stretched out of a wall in a scary movie or something. just plain creepy marksman01
