    Hey everyone,

I finally have a new coin of m own to post. Yay!

A few months back, I saw a post about the Augustus denarius that commemorated the comet that passed through in July 44 BC. It quickly made it's way to the top of my wishlist because space stuff is cool. Looking at the ones that were available, there was no way I could ever afford one. But, then, I found this dude. It's obviously not in the best shape, but, the price was right.

    Behold it's awesomeness :cool::

Feel free to post your beat-p coins or any cool coins you have hanging around.

I find your new coin to be marvelous. I want one, in any condition.

Here's my facing bust drachm of the Parthian king Phraates III (70-57 BC), Sellwood type 35. One of the piercings destroys the mintmark, but otherwise they don't harm the portrait, so I still like the coin.

Nice catch! That type was near the top of my want list for an Augustus denarius. The Capricorn reverse won.

It is very awesome indeed! :)

I love the type and like a good holed coin. Jealous that you and Doug each have one of these and I don't!

    Nice coins everyone!

I was hoping Doug would post his. They looked like they definitely could've bumped into each other.

I was hoping I could get the black stuff off of the obverse, but it's stuck on there.

Do we know the purpose for the holes? Were they just for jewelry making purposes?

    Thanks everybody!

In a recent thread, someone posted a link to this cool article on Ancient Coin HOLES! You might find some cool insight Erin!

I would have been happy with that coin Erin!

Very historic, the hole does not bother me at all.

Well, here's mine. Doug was sitting at the dealers table when I picked it out and gave it his blessing.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I am glad you are happy about your coin. Personally, I just can't get excited about a coin with a hole, but that is my preference.

I suppose I should show this Divus Augustus by Nerva again. I always wondered if it might have decorated the coffin of a very old vet of Augustus' army but really that is conjecture and would have required him to be nearly 100 so it is probably not even close.

There is a four holer Noah's ark coin by Septimius Severus I really would love to own.

That Noah's ark coin is boss!

I'm not too worried about the hole. I wouldn't have been able to add it to my collection if it wasn't there. So, I'm really happy to have it. :)

I just picked this one up for $35. I used to have a VF+ that I bought from Tom Cederlind, but had to sell it for emergency cash. I've been looking for about a year for another one I can afford, so when I saw this one I grabbed it.
