My latest pickup. I had awaited for a nice portrait of Herennia with the " plait carried up the back of head" style & finally one did.:hail:

I agree, nice coin Mat. You sure are coming up with some good ones, one after the other.

What is the significance of the half moon upon which her bust rests? her sestertii carry it too, I believe, but the dupondii do not.

The crescent moon is the symbol of the Antoninianus when the bust is female. I suppose representing the moon as opposed to the radiate crown for males being the sun.

I am being more selective I noticed, lol. Thanks though. I like it despite her not being very attractive like other empresses.

Sestertii (my poor example attached) have no crescent. Double sestertii and dupondii do but I do not own one.

Yes, a very nice coin Mat. Being more selective is one direction many go. Other losers like me still chase quantity of coins, but do tend to get a little pickier about the quality of the lots as well. :)
